Hi all. Is at site working and my wife has mentioned that car is having trouble starting. It’s not recognising the key. Does the key have a battery and if so how do we change it? What sort battery is in it? Oh yes it’s a 2016 gxl 150 series. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

The key may have a battery, but generally immobiliser transponder chips are self contained and have no battery connection. Even if the key has a battery for unlock/lock functions the immobiliser transponser will be a seperate chip, usually a black piece of plastic about 2mm x 3mm x 10mm, somtimes with a beveled edge to aid fitting it in the key. This chip draws its power from the immobiliser reader in the car via a similar mechanism to NFC or paywave credit cards.
Next step will be to check with another key to see if it's the key or the car, and then go from there.

If it's the same as the 2013, you can hold the key right up to the start button and it will start. It's an override safety feature.
To change the battery, simply pull the key part out of the fob and use that to pry open the key (there's a slot on the side that it fits in) gently gently all care no responsibility etc. Then get a new battery. I get mine from Jaycar (conveniently across the road), but they only seem to last 6-12 months lately...2013 Prado 150 Altitude
