As stated by some some above, there is an amplifier on the rear antenna that is on the back window apparently. The reception I was getting was terrible with only nova working at any reasonable level, which is consistent with my work cars that generally have broken or no aerial.
The extnix unit I have had a very strange loom on it that when I rang Asad, he said I would need to cut and join the loom. I googled and printed off the standard Toyota wiring diagram that showed where the power wire is in the radio loom and then just added a jumper wire to the ignition wire so when the ignition is on, the aerial is powered. Seems to work a lot better.

      See here [URL="http://http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?377358-1987-Radio-Stereo-wiring-diagram-(the-RIGHT-one)"]

H & I wires. I assume in a normal car with a motorized aerial, these would drive that.

I have a gx so the other thing I did was just move my hazard light switch to next to the steering wheel where the traction control switch is.

      • Sorry I should have been more specific. Are you able to provide details on where you purchased the switch from in the U.K. ?

        • I wired one of the USB connections from the ETNIX unit to the factory USB on the weekend.

Forgot to take pics but I cut the factory cable stripped the shield and the 4 wires Red, Black, Purple & Brown. Then grabbed an old USB cable and did the same, this used ISO colours Red, Black, White and Green.

I tested all connections with a multimeter and soldered the shields together, works a treat. Just sourced a flush mount USB Socket for the glovebox for the other USB connections.

Now to find a neat idea for the ipod cable. I hate loose cables floating around!

                  • What are other GXL owners doing in the interim with the switch?

                    • Still trying to source one cheaper than what I have been quoted, mine it in upright but the wrong angle. I may just go and order one through Toyota.

                      • I'm loathed to spend $400 on a switch! I might give Steve a buzz from Stinger.

                          • Ok I pulled the car apart on the weekend to do some more stereo work, checked the USB cables, wiring went as follows:

This is the thick grey cable coming off the back of the Factory USB Socket.
Factory Red (+5DC) to Aftermarket Red
Factory Black (Ground) to Aftermarket Black
Factory Brown (Data +) to Aftermarket Green
Factory Purple to (Data -)Aftermarket White
                            Factory Shield to Aftermarket Shield.

Please note I take no responsibility for any of the advice given. I tested all connections with a multimeter first, I would suggest doing so before you wire as some aftermarket USB cables use different colour codes.
