  • For what it's worth I have had my Extreme Electronix unit in my VX for 7 months now and the only real issue I have with it is that the radio reception is not as good as the OEM unit. The sound quality is better, screen resolution is A1. Maps are up to date and pretty good, but I haven't worked out how to put fixed camera locations in yet! Once or twice I have had the Bluetooth not connect to my phone, but I think it was a phone issue as turning it (the phone) off and then on again fixed it. I have not had the problems that appear to have affected some of the Digoptions units. If Extreme Electronix has not sorted the hazard switch problem (my unit is for LHD vehicles) you will have to source a LHD switch. The steering wheel controls work with the unit, with the exception of the voice control which now is a mute button.

Anyone out there on Pradopoint able to give me the pro's and cons?
Have a look at the Clarion unit, NX501A. Have that unit fitted to mine, good screen, good Hema maps, DVD, CD, blue tooth, i-pod connection, etc, etc. Not too cheap at $2,000-

      • For those that have installed the unit from Extreme Electronics, what GPS software are you running? I think this was the unit that had an issue with pirated software a while back?? I've just ordered the unit for my GXL and want to know what else I'll need to do to get a good, reliable off road mapping system happening. Is OziExplorer the best bet? Just buy it outright to override any pirating issues?

Interested to hear what everyone else has done with this side of the system.

          • No worries at all Paul, my unit should be here any day and hopefully installed this weekend. Will have a play and see how it all works and what needs to be changed.

            • Hi guys, Just an update on my decision. I ended up spending the extra cash for the Eclipse unit. My main decisions were based so this i could get more storage (maybe for a UHF down the track) and the ease of the install. All cables were plug and play with adaptors made up by MR-DVD, I also personalised the start up image.

              • Brigsdoon, can I firstly ask how much the unit ended up costing, but also what did you do with the space down below where the existing radio sits? I remember seeing somewhere a replacement storage unit and fascia panel to make it fit but it was around the $400 mark or even higher from memory.

                Any help is appreciated.

                  • Thanks Shaun2k. Ive seen prices of $2300-$2500 but would like to know what it came to all up including the new fascia panel and storage box.

                    • Hi Serotonin,
price was 2500, came with all genuine toyota parts. GX storage box for down where the radio was. top facia for the new 7 inch display and usb/aux blank plug. 3year Navtec free map upgrades 3 year warranty, and all wiring harness adaptors (except reverse camera, which was very little to wire in) The eclipse allows you to view camera whilst driving also. Have just been to Adelaide on the weekend and the voice control for the navigation was awesome, such an easy unit to operate. Yet to test out the 4wd maps so i can't comment on them yet.

                      • storage box comes in very handy for phones and wallets. Also thinking about a possible spot to hide my UHF down the track

                        • Thanks for the update Brigadoon. Can I ask where you got yours from? As that price with the fascia panel/storage box is quite good.

                          Thanks.

                              • I brought one of these off ebay - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-Toyota-...item3371f02af8

Can anyone confirm that I'll need a fascia kit or anything else to fit to a 2011 GXL?

And where can you buy these?

                                Thanks.
