  • Useful Wire Colors and locations

Hi Folks, - Thought this would be a very useful thread for newbies and oldies alike - Or evolve into one anyway....
I think the title says it all - So if you have found a wire location and color that is useful for something then please post it here and I will keep this first post up to date.

EDIT- DISCLAIMER: The info below is supplied by like minded enthusiasts and in some cases not professionals in the trade, it is therefore used at your own risk to save time and would advise a quick check to verify.

    Brake Light Signal
Purple Wire, Found at the plug going into the Brake Pedal.

Dash Illumination when lights are turned on
Green Wire, Found at the headlight angle adjuster switch - there are two green wires here, its the one on inside pin of the plug not the outside pin (its a four pin plug).

12v constant - I am sure there will be many different locations and perhaps differing color depending on location.
    TBA

12v acc. - I am sure there will be many different locations and perhaps differing color depending on location.
Green Wire, Drivers side of the Engine Bay above the brake booster going to the wiper motors.

I was able to acquire the full wiring diagram for the Prado 150 reversing camera, sensors and associated stuff, now to try and work out what the hell it means.

Any chance of posting up the diagram? Plenty on here would be interested, me thinks.

Speed Sensor Input or Output Wire

This is used for a rally computer trip meter

It is a thin solid red, at rear of stereo, on the conector second from drivers door this generates a pulse of 2519 per kilometer

It works fine with my Monit TC100 as well as the TerraTrip

                    Hope it's Helpful

Re: Useful Wire Colors and locations

                      Hi Folks,

I'm installing an ARB Compressor into my 150 series and placing the actuator switch in the panel near your right knee holding the headlight angle control dial. Does anyone know the location and colour of the nearest 12v acc wire.

I've read you can pick one up at the cigi socket in centre console but I'm sure there's gotta be one closer than that.

                      Any help would be appreciated.

                      Cheers

Just installed ARB onboard air .

Both wires can be picked up at the switch panel & start button panel right above, both panels pop out without any screws. .

The blue/white from the Arb loom get joined to the GREEN for dash illumination (Zero pointed out in first post) . This is found on the dash illumination dimmer , there only is 4 wires and on mine only one is green.

The red/yellow from the ARB loom get joined to a PINK for ignition signal. This is found on the electric mirror adjuster plug, its next to the start button , there only is one pink wire.

Found this link when looking for info on accessory power to run a relay through the trailer plug to my van to power the 3 way fridge from the van battery but not drain it when the car is not connected or running - more good info on the forum.

If you remove the 240V outlet panel there is a 2 wire plug, unused in the GXL, a VX or Kakadu owner might be able to shed some light on what it is for. The light green wire is only powered when the accessories are switched on. Was very easy to run a wire from the light green wire under the floor panel to connect into the trailer harness. Job done.

If anyone wants information on how I have wired the relay in the van feel free to give me a hoy.

That wire does not look big enough to carry the current for a fridge so you may have a few problems. 3 way fridges can draw around 15 amps on 12v , mine does. Most people end up running a heavy gauge wire for that purpose.
