I'm going to try and mount it next to the low four selector knob where that blank panel is on the GXL's. Chip-It 's page says the rear face of the module is 45mm x 22mm. That blank panel is exactly 45mm wide so I might have to trim up a few bits with the dremel but that's where I plan on putting mine.

Also does anyone have an EGR blanking plate fitted? I just ordered one.

After I pointed out the cheaper EGT probe the same as Chip-It sells I still bought one from Chip-It. :? Why? Because I'm hoping the Chip-It module will easily plug into there system with out the guess work that could cost me lots of money if I get it wrong. I'll post pics of my install this weekend.

Dude, did you not read my post above? They are the same, even chipit told me that. As I said above I have mine connected to the chip it and it works as advertised. The other day up a long hill with cruise control set at 100 my EGT went to 600 (alarm is 575), the chip detuned itself and I backed off. It re-engaged when temps went below 480 which took no time at all.

Its your money!

Chipit are going to have to reduce their markup on those things as with the internet people are going to get wise to it and they won't sell any - losing money in the process.

Hi, ordered a chipit for the prado (chips STILL on its way to darwin, stuff gets here faster from the US than from down south! I ordered an AC compressor for the play car, and it arrived 4 days before some coil spring spacers ordered on teh same day!). Do you have a wiring diagram or some pics available so I can wire up the EGT gauge as you have?

I used the wiring diagram included in the package. If you look on the auber website they have specific instructions for wiring it up as a pyrometer, it is very very simple.

Barry, you dont need to get an EGR plate. Installing it on the Prado would be a big pain in the ass. Instead you can use the cheat method on the chip it website which involves disconnecting the butterfly valve vacuum hose and plugging it with a screw. It takes 5 minutes and didnt throw any fault codes on my vehicle. Of course, I only use it offroad.

They seem to have taken the link down (probably to sell more EGR blanks).
If you have a look at their D4D blanking guide, go to the "Hilux EGR system" component diagram. Part number 25630 is the one you are after, it is Butterfly valve number one which is vacuum operated. At the bottom you will see a nipple, this is connected to a rubber hose which is connected to the vacuum pump. If this is disconnected and plugged, the butterfly valve will not open to let exhaust gases through and the EGR is effectively disabled.

On some vehicles this can throw a fault code, so only attempt this mod if you have a scanguage or similar OBD scanning tool.

Yes we use the that controller but we also do some things inside the unit and supply the ready made the harness. We also provide 3 years warranty ... thats 9 x more than standard. We track serial numbers and know which is ours of course.

Its like a new set of guages we are buying ... we ask the manufacturer to fit some other bits to it so we can use it. They agree, they bill us for the work and then we make it available. Of course you can buy that unit but they are NOT the same. Also our probes our not the standard probe. we use ultra thin, and very sensitive probes that are fully sealed and are guaranteed to take extreme temps where the standard K type is guaranteed to last 12 months only

Don't get me wrong, I love your product (except for the limp home issue) and the level of customer support you provide is unmatched, but I still say that charging $399 for that EGT module is taking the piss.

Hi. And thanks for the praise on the product Schniff. We are very proud to make an Aussie product that beats the European (and Asia) products that are around. In fact we are so confident that is anyone brings us a competitor's chip we guarantee to beat the power even if that other chip is on MAX setting.

Regarding the EGT Monitor: As I mentioned to you on the phone, the Chip you have will work with the EGT monitor BUT ... not on all Chips. On the new Chip it Module it will not work. People are going to buy the Auber product on your say so and have it not work. Hopefully they wont abuse you too much for this.

Also, the guage you purchased online does not come with a our pretty metal case which hides all the wires and fully encloses the guage from dust etc.

The case is another $79.00. We then spend time to have the EGT Controller fit that case so that it looks neat with a bulk head fitting (as the wires out the back are fairly thick).

Lastly, we also have an engine warranty protection guarantee that can come into effect when someone purchases the EGT monitor we sell. So the price covers many things ... a whole lot more than JUST THE GUAGE.

If the EGT Controller purchase is not listed as a purchase in our database, the engine warranty is NOT be provided.

Steinbauer's do this automatically without an EGT gauge

Its VERY DIFFERENT Adrian.

The Steinbauyer (SB) unit just looks if the Throttle Position has been at 100% for a few seconds. If it has, it starts decreasing chip power by 1% per second ... REGARDLESS if the EGTs are hot or not (only as long as you have 100% throttle).

There are 3 problems with this:

1) it is not actively monitoring EGTs.

2) power starts decreasing even if you don't need it to. Overtaking cars on the freeway etc may cost some power when you need the power.

3) it only works if you are at 100% throttle. If you are at 98% throttle and the EGT are getting up too high the SB unit will not bring back power.

This is the reason we went the way of ACTIVELY monitoring with a probe in the exhaust. I know it is more painful to install however its the only way to really seriously do the job.

Not to try and sell EGR blanks ... we dont sell EGT blanks for the D4D. It was taken down BECAUSE it is not 100% successfull. It works only 30% of the time approx. don't ask me why ... it just wouldn't.

Robert, can you tell us more about above? What is being covered and what is the fineprint?

This warranty will be offered to those who purchase EGT Controlled Chips. The controller safe guards the engine so that the heat that would normally damage an engine is abated. This allows us to warrant the drive line UNTIL the standard drive line warranty provided by the manufacturer comes to an end. So basically, we are covering the engine and gearbox if the manufacturer tells you to get stuffed and shows the Chip has caused the issue.

We need to have the Manufacturer write this as we cannot have every engine issue attributed to the chip when it was not the chip's fault. For example, Toyota are replacing under warranty the injectors ($3000) for new D4D engine where in the morning the injectors are as noisy as hell.

Case in Point. I know of a dealer in North QLD that told one customer "no, Toyota will not cover this as there isn't a problem with them." Then the guy kicked up a stink because he knew a mate had them done under warranty and then the service manager came and said "its OK we will get Toyota to provide warranty."

If the guy just took it on face value he would walk away thinking the Dealer is correct. Since we are not here to fix everyone's problems this is the fairest way we know to stop the Dealer from trying to get you (then us) to pay retail for any repairs that they should be repairing.
