    • Chip It, i congratulate your honesty and assessments and your boots and all approach to the forum. I would ask you the following questions as a potential customer, and i must say i would have to refute your statement that your chips are totally australian made, some of your electronic components would come from overseas even if your suppliers are locally Australian. there would be no doubt they are totally Australian assembled, sold and warranted so that would be correct and you are to be commended for that.

1 Can you guarantee trouble free motoring with your chip?

2 What fuel savings are available when towing a caravan?

3 Why fit your chip and not a steinbauer?

      • Chipit, yes normally steinbauer standard take the throttle position, however if you do this then you do not get the ability of having cruise control. i want the ability of cruise control so they say they take a wire it to the boost and map it to the boost sensor.

While i do not know the in's and out of every chip, yours included and as i said i do believe by controlling the fuel rail pressure and boost you can get better air fuel mixture than just controlling the fuel. I do not want the issues of trouble starting, error codes etc.

And while if is go the Steinbauer path i will not get as much power and probably efficieny but by reports i will not get the errors. If you can find the fault so there is no more error code faults or starting issues by the time i finally decide then i would consider buying one, but i just do not want issues.

            • Hi there Sambo150, Glad I got a 120 V6 4L with 179kw and goes like the clappers without the need of a chip and only 30nm difference, yes it drinks more but the $1000+ bucks plus some seem to be spending on a chip just paid for my years worth of extra unleaded I will use over the turbo diesel lol...........Cheers Steve

I respect your observations, but would like to point out two things:
                1. Just as there are Non Chip-it customers not posting here because they don't have issues, so are there Chip-it customers who don't have issues.
                2. Perhaps (and I only assume) the problems are for a minority, and as can be seen, Chip-it are not shirking away from the issues.

As a very happy customer (120 series and yes I paid a lot more than $70k) I will not hesitate in promoting the Chip-It chip. I do feel for those guys having problems and hope they get sorted out. I do beleive the Chip-It guys guarantee their product as per the money back guarantee they provide in writing!

I can only speak for myself, I am very happy with the result. On my trip back to Adelaide from Perth pulling an overloaded camper trailer and with my roof racks carrying around 200kg (yes I know the limit) I was easily able to overtake the speed limited road trains when I needed too.

I am aware there are at least 18 members of this site that are at least happy (don't want to overexagerate) with their Chip-it chips and have not had any problems.

Finally, openly admitting I am NOT a diesel expert, my amature advice would be if anyone wants some more power, get any cheap chip, BUT if you want a lot more power without sacrificing a proportionate amount of fuel, buy a Chip-It. Some dyno results are on my build up for those considering all the facts. It should be noted that the results were done while I had a fuel line problem and on a stinking hot day which adversely effected the results. That aside the results are great.
                Dear MLC,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your respect for your successes with ChipIt but here is my point.

Your success with ChipIt is welcomed, I wish more people like yourself spoke positively of your experiences but unfortunately this thread is monopolised by negative outcomes which brings me to comment about this topic.

From an outsider looking in, I see ChipIt dominating a thread which draws on my curiosity.....there are other products available but no one seems to talk about them in great detail so it gets me thinking. Now, I know that bad news travels faster than good but if I were in the market for a chip, this thread would sadly be enough to make me either shy away completely or put my trust in another company that doesn't seem to have any problems (that I don't know about).

I have to hand it to ChipIt for providing a prompt service too their paid customers and willingly guiding them through some teething problems. I can bet if you were one of the unlucky ones things would look a lot different from your perspective though.

If it were one or two guys with a small glitch and there were solutions I would gladly look past it and jump onboard but seriously, have you read the entire thread? Im not on my own on this one but Im certainly not saying that Steinbauer or others are providing a better product either.

I can see some great potential from ChipIt and I really appreciate the customer contact on here but I think I will wait until these issues are sorted before I lay down my purchase. What you and others do with your money is none of my business.

Im certainly not trying to degrade CHipIt with my comments, to be honest Im really interested with what they have to offer. With the popularity of them on here there must be something Im missing but every time somebody posts it always seems to be problem solving rather than telling everybody how amazing it is.

I will look on with interest, a solution and then hopefully more proud owners of this equipment.

                Regards,
                Murray.

                • Aggree with you Murray and must say while I dont have any intentions of buying a chip it as I have petrol I must give credit where its due and that is to chipit himselve for replying to any issues, not trying to hide the fact they are having some teething issues and is backing his warranty and after sales service which is more then I can say for alot of companys around these days. Take your money and run and dont want to know you once they have your hard earned $$. Even though I dont have a diesel and have never purchased a chipit chip I will continue to read with interest and hopefully the issues will be rectified and the product will work faultlessly.... On you chip it for your honesty and continuing to follow up customer issues.........Cheers Steve

                    • All good Murray. I have read the whole thread and a lot of others including rig build ups like Joey's, and even web seaches etc etc. I agonized over which chip to buy for a while. My reason for posting was to give my positive side to what was not exactly a happy chip-it thread. I agree with a lot of what you have said and understand the apprehension people may have.

I can say that if I was someone affected for any reason on this or any product I would not be happy until the problem was fixed. I must agree that these guys have never shirked from what is 100% commitment o fixing issues and being very open about any issues. It is well known that this unfortunately is an absolute rarity in today's society.

Those that have met Justin and the guys at Chip-It will soon realise why they are on this forum and open and guarantee their product. He and they are so passionate about their product and as he did for me, made time at Christmas to do my dyno run as I was in WA from SA for a short time.

                      Cheers all reading thread thread.

                      • MLC,

Good post, this has all been one sided for a while now and a bit of balance is a good thing and to be fair ChipIt is a Business that has been going for a number of years, there must be a lot more satisfied customers than unhappy ones or they simply wouldn't be in business. I don't disbelieve for a moment that these issues are confined to just a couple of models of cars even the D4D issues discussed here appear to be isolated to auto 150 Prados, not Hilux's nor 120's nor manuals.
I could be wrong but that's how it appears.
I also think that it's great that a representative of ChipIt is prepared to engage through the forum to help sort these issues, unfortunately not all ChipIt's posts have been helpful, here are two examples,

1/ "What is the fix for this? SIMPLY RUN THE RELAY WE SUPPLY FOR FREE!!!" and "Then use the supplied relay!"

I have done that with one chip and it hasn't worked, it was an intermittent fix only, CEL came on at start up again.
So not so simple? and why the capital letters and the exclamation marks?
What are you trying to say?
And the "simply" part, finding accessory power under the bonnet is not that "simple", I don't recall any post from ChipIt describing where to take the accessory power from.

2/ "If this seems too hard for you or if you feel you have been ripped off please feel free to call the office for a refund."

                        Too hard?
I’ve fitted two different looms, two different chip's, tried ten combinations of loom, chip, no chip (to test the looms), earth, no earth and earth with a relay.
I’m not sure any of it’s too hard, it’s more, what’s a reasonable investment of my time to get it to work?

ChipIt, I get the impression from these posts that you are becoming frustrated or losing patience, I'm not sure that's the message you want to be sending to all the people who have been reading this?

I don't think any of us having these issues actually want to be, I certainly expected to "plug and play" and then only lift the bonnet if I wanted to change tunes, unfortunately that's not where I'm at.

Anyway, I have connected the original chip up to the harness with the relay, setup 11 I think, ok so far. If this doesn't work I have one more combination of parts to try then I'm at a dead end.

                        Fingers crossed.

                          • BTW, a few questions please. Tune 11 is fairly high. Do you have the limiter mod done and do you have an after-market exhaust fitted? If no to the second q, do u know what your EGTs are?

                            • ChipIt,

I'm happy to provide the feedback,

Regarding the tune, the chip is still on the original tune 5, the comment, "setup 11 I think", relates to the number of combinations I've tried, ie.

"I’ve fitted two different looms, two different chip's, tried ten combinations of loom, chip, no chip (to test the looms), earth, no earth and earth with a relay."

And so far this combination has been good for 1 day, fingers crossed I've got it this time.

I'll be sure to let you know.

                              • Tried to install the relay without success...

Could anyone please let me know
                                1. How to get the wire through the grommet on the driver side into the car?
                                2. How to remove the "Engine Start Stop" button or panel to connect to the "pink wire"?
                                3. Is the supplied relay water proof?

                                Many thanks.
