  • Heya,

    Sorry a few more questions:

Do the EGT sensors last for a long time? Have you had many fail?
Also, on other threads on this forum guys have been replacing the middle muffler on 150's, have you seen or had any experience with this mod?

    Cheers

    Dave

    • no failures ... even with the older type we were using (open end type). Now we use a sealed end so that it is more resistant to heat. But like i said ... no failures to date because of heat. Had 2 or 3 (over many hundreds sold) due to ... well due to just not working. But we replaced and off it went.

Sorry, no direct experience with just removing the muffler. Heard about people doing it and getting pretty good results. If I were doing this the replacement part would be made for 3" pipe with smaller flanges so that if you where not happy enough you could just cut off the flanges and put in a full 3" system. Just my thoughts.

      • No worries, thanks for the feedback.

I'll come down and see you guys when I back next to see about fitting costs to a 150 with EGT kit.

        Cheers

        • Ive had mine now for say 18 months?? at least.

I put a switch on the power side so i can run with it or without it as it has been so problematic. Just this morning it wouldnt start and then turning onto a 4 lane motorway at some lights went into limp mode as i came up to the lights, car completely cut out just as i got across two lanes, leaving me stuck with the arse of the prado across the road. Quickly cleared the code and got going. Havent had an issue in a while, but to be honest i run with it off most of the time as it scares me at times, like this morning. I certainly do not run it with the family in the car.

This is already my second chip and wiring loom maybe its time for a third?

          • I must be one of the lucky ones. What fault code was produced Largeinaprado?

Honestly didnt even look, when i looked over my shoulder and four lanes of peak hour traffic was just released from a red light i shit grabbed the scanguage (which wasnt plugged in) fumbled around and just cleared it as soon as poss, im guessing it would have been fuel rail pressure as it was when i came off pedal and then went to accelerate again. In that circumstance it hasn't happened for a long time though, but thats just it, when you least expect it.

I drove it to sydney and tamworth recently doing about 2500ks in a weekend whilst towing about 1500kgs and I didnt have an issue whatsoever so was very happy even overtaking folks up hill (i was by myself and drove hard the whole time) so its this inconsistancy that gets me

              • It would be interesting to check that out with a proper scan tool.
Shame you don't live near me. I recently bought an intellegent scanner, and have only had the chance to use it once.

                • I have 4 proper scan tools between my two workshops and when i first installed this chip i used to run around with my Hanatech just to keep the bugger running.

The scanguage is fine, it reads the code, from there google is your friend as for what the code corresponds to, saves a big bulky scan tool in the front of the car too and when mine vary from 4-30 grand not items i would like to leave in the car for some light finger to get his next hit via cashies.

                  (is that better language?)

Its just not worth it. Otherwise if they give you a hard time saying the chip will void warranty, tell them to put that in writing. They soon back away from their statement. But its just better not to have a toe to toe.

Re the warranty... we would require a letter from the dealer to state the chip was the cause of the failure ... that's the point of the warning above

                            Hi Robert,

Still researching & reading this thread, hence this post.

You say remove the chip before going to Toyota, that's fair enough - but what about the EGT? Surely that will get their interest up, as how many people would have an EGT with out a chip?

Has anybody else had a problem / issue from the dealer over this when in for a service?

                            Cheers

                            • Can't see how an EGT probe would casue any concern. You are simply keeping an eye on egt's.

EGT Controller without Chip is a gauge only. Even if someone is wise and knows our product you can not be pinned with Chip if they never see it.
