If I had a chip I would definately remove it prior to any service not just warranty. The less they know the better. There is a possibility that they would take a note of it having one and keep it on record. Then and if you had a warranty issue they will use that for an excuse and i reckon I could bet my balls there would be a digital photo of the fitted chip module to back up their claim. Its just easier to remove it then everything will be sweet either way in regards to a service or warranty work. Most should know what dealers are like, if they can get out of doing it under warranty and make you pay the $$$ as chip it has says then there way on front then if done under warranty. And in regards to honesty, if they gouge your paint work while working on your car, unless you notice it do you think they would tell you ?? ha ha, no friggin chance, what you dont see you dont know about, works both ways.........And by the way I worked for Toyota for 4 years, forget how many vehicles we pinstripped to cover scratches)...........(salesman)---Sorry sir we pinstripped the wrong car, we can remove it if you dont like it bu there will definately be no charge for it, you got $300 worth of stripping for nothing, Customer--- na leave it looks quit smart, I like it....Salesman thinking--- you beauty done deal dont worry about the rust in years to come.......honest Cheers Steve

the dealer will just point the bone at you REGARDLESS of whether they know it is a known fault or not. That's just what they do. Like the dealer saying "it will void warranty". Not all mind you, but most.
Remember, they get about $30.00 per hour for the labour and all the parts for free from the manufacturer if its a warranty claim. However, if they get you to believe it is your fault (WHATEVER YOU DID) then they get to charge you full tilt boogie (ie full retail price for labour ... circa $130.00 / hr) and you get to buy the parts off them for full retail too.
Its a question of economics brogers
You are not trying to be dishonest ... rather making sure they are not trying too pin the blame on you for something that is not your fault (or in this case, the chip's fault)

mmmm, but, and its a big "BUT"....if something goes wrong, such as a leaking injector seal or a blown head gasket, do you think questions could be asked? Would there be no issues then. It would all be fine until something went wrong I guess.
If it was all ok to run an engine chip, and if it didn't void warranty by having a chip, then why bother removing the chip just before taking it for a service?....is that honest?....should someone really hide the fact that they are using an engine chip from the dealer...its just a question worth asking.

You say remove the chip before going to Toyota, that's fair enough - but what about the EGT? Surely that will get their interest up, as how many people would have an EGT with out a chip?
Has anybody else had a problem / issue from the dealer over this when in for a service?
Cheers
Lawrie
My rig is a 2009 Grande. I have the chip and EGT and remove the chip only for the fix price servicing and note it is still under new car warranty.
No issues at all.

correct Davros
EGT Controller without Chip is a gauge only. Even if someone is wise and knows our product you can not be pinned with Chip if they never see it.

Can't see how an EGT probe would casue any concern. You are simply keeping an eye on egt's.

Its just not worth it. Otherwise if they give you a hard time saying the chip will void warranty, tell them to put that in writing. They soon back away from their statement. But its just better not to have a toe to toe.
Re the warranty... we would require a letter from the dealer to state the chip was the cause of the failure ... that's the point of the warning above

I have 4 proper scan tools between my two workshops and when i first installed this chip i used to run around with my Hanatech just to keep the bugger running.
The scanguage is fine, it reads the code, from there google is your friend as for what the code corresponds to, saves a big bulky scan tool in the front of the car too and when mine vary from 4-30 grand not items i would like to leave in the car for some light finger to get his next hit via cashies.

It would be interesting to check that out with a proper scan tool.
Shame you don't live near me. I recently bought an intellegent scanner, and have only had the chance to use it once.
