My engine chipping experience so far

We have a dealer in Melbourne who is capable of putting your car on the dyno. We also offer try before you buy, so if you want we could have our dealer fit up our Diesel Smart Module which also features boost control and egt control. It would only be a dummy set-up, then if you're happy with it we can arrange to have it booked in and properly fitted...

In regards to exhaust systems, I can offer you aluminized steel with 5 year warranty for $990 + freight or stainless steel system for $1200 + freight. stainless has a 10 year warranty.

In regards to your Dyno questions.. With our products, when we put them on the dyno we tune them for Air Fuel Ratios to ensure that you have better fuel economy in the economy program and we tune for EGT's in the towing programs to make sure that your car is not going to run into excessive exhaust gas temperatures as soon as you put any weight behind it and tow up the slightest bit of a hill, that being said EGT monitor of some sort is extremely useful when it comes to towing.

The EGT probe fitting thread is 1/8th BSPT

The fitting we send with the kit can be used as the tap. on your car it is easy to do on the car. Just go through the driver's side wheel arch. The turbo/dump pipe is just there Really easy.

The mods you are proposing wont hurt. They will be better than stock. Just try to get your pipe to flare up to the muffler etc you are fitting so that if you do go for a bigger exhaust you can use the parts you added to save some costs.

I can easily get your mate up to speed with the tuning. If he tunes petrol vehicles he will find our software very easy. You can fit up our performance modules with the tunes we supply and drive away. All tunes supplied (1- 15) are dyno tunes. So you can fit the kit and drive away. No more to pay. I guarantee you will be chuffed even at tune 5.

I am fully aware that your products are out there and others, as I have looked at rapid chips aswell. i think chip it raised a good point of making the exhaust after the mods, suit for furthur modifications as it a very smart move forward. I will be in contact futher with you guys and if I need further assistance to help my mate tune it i will require full support and that is what makes a good product better I believe. for the guys with chip it products where are you mounting EGT as there is not many spots for accessories in the Kakadu!!

You don't need to monitor in fact. Many have the controller up under the dash. The point is, that its there when you need it. It will automatically adjust up and down without user intervention. I have mined displayed above my left knee (where typically a brake controller would be) but I really seldom look at it. More for if I need to show a customer how it works.

Some have taken it out of the casing and mounted the bare controller so that only the LED display is seen. I know some folks have posted pics of it mounted in the centre console and also in the dash itself.

I didn't get the EGT controller due to it's size and limited space to mount it hence why I got a standard EGT gauge mounted on the drivers side pillar:

BTW, I have a second hand 52mm EGT gauge/Boost gauge in one (from Autron). It was used once in my car. I didn't like it because I needed bigger display. It's in new condition .ie no scratches etc.

I try because I want things to last up here in the NT. Sometimes it's trial an error like my EGT gauge. The digital one I found hard to read during the day and it stopped working so I asked the supplier to change it over to an analogue one...Waiting for it to be posted.

Hi guys, I've tried two rail pressure 'chips' on my Kakadu now. Neither were the Chip-It, and neither impressed due to the rougher idle and noisier injection, which I attributed to the higher rail pressures. There's no doubt though, both worked fine and improved performance. The last module I took off to get the car serviced, and didn't bother to put it back on because it was nice having the standard idle quality back - the rougher idle made things in the dash rattle. A mate recommended the DieselSmart to me and I liked the idea of leaving the rail pressures alone for the above reasons. Well, to say I'm impressed is an under statement. Idle quality and noise are back at factory levels but the throttle response and outright linearity in the torque curve is amazing! And tht's on setting 2 of the 4. It's been on a few weeks now without trouble. Too early to say what the effect on fuel economy will be because I'm still having fun driving it and haven't been on a trip.
