Hi Flash01, I have had exactly the same experience as you with the same dealer with my 2009 D4D. However I bought the Chip It direct and had the Caloundra dealer install it and the EGT and have it Dyna tuned. It was custom tuned. I had two issues with the dreaded error lights but the dealer was helpful and wanted to solve the problem which he did by backing off his custom tune. That was in October and I am still touching wood! I am now considering adding the Terrain Tamer Fuel Manager as reading the other posts about faulty injectors and bad fuel is quite scary!Originally posted by flash01 View PostMy ChiP It experience:
Fitted to D4d in late November in Caloundra including dyno tuning. Went like a rocket ship and got amazing fuel economy. Lasted 2 days before the dreaded LO4 error light. Took it back, said he fixed it but same result. Got back to home town and had to badger the dealer into getting the bloke in my town who is a dealer to assist. The local bloke was brilliant taking on a problem that was not his. Old chip out, new chip in same result. Original dealer not interested at all and strangely silent except for refusing to refund any money. Got the sh.ts and contacted Chip It themselves. Well what a change in attitude. They could not do enough to fix the issue. They spent a full week working on the D4d issue and got it fixed. New chip arrived with a dual tune (highly recommended if you are like me and don't like messing around with laptops and engines) and is running fine (still only 2 days though). Only down side is the new tunes are significantly down on power and torque than the original dyno tune. For piece of mind I'll put up with that.....maybe.
Lessons: Deal with Chip It in WA, forget their dealers. Fit it yourself, it is so simple. Be prepared to ask, Chip It really do want to have their customers satisfied.2009 120 GXL auto Diesel Prado with Option pack (DAC, TRC, VSC), Super Winch, Dual Batteries, Airteck snorkel, Polyair bag suspension, 75w HID IPF's.

Bought my chip it module nearly 12 months ago and it went well on tune 5 for a while then the problems started. Every tune I changed it to eventually put the car into limp mode. Spoke to Chip-It and they said its probably a faulty module so I sent it back to them. A few days ago a new one arrived complete with new wiring loom. I installed the loom and plugged in the module, first thing I noticed was the smoke coming out of the module. Disconnected the module and plugged in the blanking plug but the car won't start. Spoke to Chip-It again on the phone and the guy got me to check the plugs etc and then asked me to take photos of the plugs in the loom because the wires may not have been put in the correct place. This is all well and good except with the loom out of the car and all the factory plugs re-connected the car still won't start. 4Lo flashes indicating a fault code but the OBD scanner I have will no longer recognise the ECU. The only other noticable thing is an solenoid or actuator on the intake pipe which looks like it could be the butterfly control continues to click on and off. Now Im stuck with a vehicle I cant use and have to get it towed to Toyota in a weeks time to see if the ECU has been fried. Not very happy at all with Chip-It!

As I have said and as Roo has said an exhaust system is the go......leave the chip alone. All I read from people who have fitted chips is problems. The exhaust system is going to give you about 10 per cent more power anyhow.

No offence to anyone here that has chipped their vehicle or done the exhaust but has got me buggered why so many people buy a diesel don't seem to be happy with it then proceed to go and spend anther 3 grand or so to get a few more kW's and bit more torque ??? then servicing costs on top of that, risk of picking up shitty diesel which will then cost upwards of 4 grand for injectors then new pump if required (there's approx 10g all up) when you can get the petrol for cheaper to buy either new or second hand, don't have injector issues and have more KW's, torque is down a tad compared to diesel, and going by the issues people are having with their D4D's Id have a petrol any day, unless doing a lot of towing then fair enough diesel will win in the long run or doing some out back remote towns where petrol isn't allowed. I hope Bruffy that your computer isn't fried. This wont be a cheap repair cost and I can see this becoming a shit fight if it is fried ???? Good luck with it and I hope its some thing minimal like a fuse or some thing and you get to enjoy driving your beast again. If your taking it to Toyota I certainly would be keeping your mouth closed about the chip and see if your lucky enough to get it through warranty..........Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto. I hear what you are saying, I love petrol in normal cars, but have in diesel in 4wd, low down torque is part of it. Fuel economy. Just more suited to the type of vehicle, just my opinion. It not like you buy a 2.5 t car for performance only.
so if diesel is better than petrol in a 4wd, a chipped diesel is more betterer.stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Bruffy, you are the first I have heard this happen to. And I can tell you that with my hand on my heart.
Never seen or heard of this before. And in cases like this, this is why you buy products here in Australia from good companies. When a part causes the problem good companies will stand behind the customer. If Toyota dont fix it free then its the Manufacture's fault and they will pay for the repair.

So you are saying Chip It will pay for Bruffy's repairs if it is not a Toyota warranty failure?Originally posted by Chip It View PostBruffy, you are the first I have heard this happen to. And I can tell you that with my hand on my heart.

I have purchased & installed a Chip It chip/module with EGT controller & here is my version. I also fitted a throttle controller & oil catch can. I did have a few problems from the word go due to the fact that the throttle controller was supplied with incorrect plugs/wiring & when I first fitted the chip, it was bringing on eng check, lo4 etc as soon as I switched the ignition on only. Got in contact with Robert & he sent me a new harness for the throttle controller. Rob passed me on to Chip It support, they asked for module to be sent back to W.A. checked wirning harness over the phone with multi-meter to check continuity & plug locations were all ok. They wre spot on. Sent module back & waited a week before I recieved the new chip. Support advised the processor was fried so repaired as required. Re-installed chip & crossed the fingers & toes as I hit the start button & hey presto ALL GOOD.

I speak for myself here & was very pissed off considering they were brand new products out of the box but after every thing had been sorted out, I am very very happy with the end results by fitting Chip-It module & there other products. The throttle controller on its own makes a big difference. the turbo lag is still there slightly but the chip stops part of this issue. I will be fitting the a manta exhaust from them with the fuel limiter mod & EGR mods & they should fix my lag issue. I was going to get other items this week but my lovely 07 Hilux with 1KD has decided to S#!T a turbo & leak oil every where. But I have one on order from Japan for under a Grand to my door in 3 days. Suck that toyota and jam your $3300 in you D4D.
But all aside I cant speak highly enough for my upgrades thanks to Chip It & there support team. I will fit there products again hands down. If you are looking for a smile and Fuel economy incease (was 11.0 & now 8.9) then dont hum & ha like I did at first & give em a go as I am sure you will be happy. I am also in the process of making a catch can install kit and I will be posting pics & pricing once I get a chance depending on the amount of intrest.2009 Prado Kakadu 3.0L Turbo Diesel, ARB Deluxe winch bar, Safari snorkel, Chip It Performance Module, EGT Controller, Throttle Controller, Manta 3" SS exhaust System, Pro-Vent oil Catch can, Lightforce 170mm Strikers 75w HID, Waeco 50L DZ fridge, GME TX3540 & AE4705, dual battery, Many options & upgrades to come...
