  • Mine is also a chipit unit, the filter tube is sealed at the bottom but
does not also seal into the case, try this:

Plug inlet pipe with your thumb, blow into drain pipe, air will exit the outlet pipe.

Plug outlet pipe, blow into drain pipe, air will exit inlet pipe.

This proves that air can flow from both inlet and outlet pipes to drain. As the filter
membrane is not impermeable to oil, oil can also flow from the inlet and outlet to drain.

Well at least on mine it can yours should be the same as I doubt they
    would have two different models?

    Cheers

    • tried it with oil and it does leak to the bottom so happy it works, that bottom filter section that looks like a seal doesn't seal as you stated Leigh. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

      cheers Derek

      • Hi Derek and Leigh,
seeing you've got your hands on a chipit unit catch can ( and sometimes your mouths by blowing air through it ), what are your thoughts of the internal filter please.... do you think it will need replacing regularly, and do you think it will be "cleanable" several times...what I am getting at is that I don't want to have to be replacing the filter every few months. What are your thoughts please lads.

        • looking at the filter i think you could gently wash it a few times, i dont think you need to replace the filter every few months, maybe someone who had theirs on for a while could enlighten us on that. Either way i'm happy with the benefits of having one.

Same as what you get locally but quite a bit cheaper.
And due to the appealingly high cost of local oil resistant hose, I bought this - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271087103...84.m1439.l2649 which at $10 plus post is under 1/2 Aus price.

Found a place in SA that does blue silicon hose for $12 p/m

                • Hi all,

For anyone considering the install of the provent hp200, here is a quick and dirty on my install. Cheap and effective, looks good and is hard to tell its even a mod in the engine bay. 2012 prado GXL D4d.

Mounted on drivers side aft of the air cleaner box next to the brake unit. Two bolts stick up from chassis and I used these to secure the bracket.

Purchased from Bunnings 30mm wide 3mm aluminium flat bar. 2x 8mm gal bolts with nuts and washers, 2 further 8 mm nuts to secure bracket to the chassis.

From super cheap auto - a brass 5/8 hose joiner. And a 1/2 inch rubber radiator plug and hose clamp to cap off the bottom of the drain hole.

5/8 inch Pertec fuel and oil hose r7.

That's all you need to install this. Here is a few pictures bellow to show how it looks once installed.

Note in the following picture, I removed the stand off pipe and used the brass joiner to plug directly into the intake manifold. Otherwise the two hoses would rub together at the rocket cover. Looks better too.

The 5/8 hose would never fit over the 1inch inlet and outlets of the provent hp200. However it does fit really tightly inside the inlets and outlets. Use a bit of dish washing detergent to help slide the hose inside the inlet and outlets. Wash thoroughly when correctly fitted. I used some PVC joiner hose to cover the connections too ensure no leaks. It's fully sealed.

I priced the components required the reduce 1inch into 5/8inch at Pertec - came to $26 a piece. And you would need two off them!

                  Any questions, happy to help.
                  Cheers
                  Scott

                    • Hi,
I am a new lurker having purchased a 2012 GXL D4D auto, should have a long time a go, great vehicle. My question is to members who have fitted the Provent 200. Once fitted how often does the filter need emptying/cleaning, if the drain is closed at time of installation. From previous posts it appears there is quite a lot of residue in the filter after a short time. Any info much appreciated.

                      Thanks
                      Bruce

                      • Well the bad weather gave me the opportunity to finally complete my pro vent installation. I stole ideas from this thread and then modified them to suit my situation.

Basically I used the threaded holes on the drivers side inner guard to support a home made bracket, made from a piece of 25 x 75 RHS. I intended to use a brass 5/8 joiner as Scott did, but was unhappy with how close the hose ran in relation to the exhaust manifold shield. So I used a spacer and a longer bolt to adjust the angle of the factory metal pipe, which gave me just enough clearance for the two pipes to fit at the rocker cover.

Hose installed inside the Provent Inlet and Outlet fittings.

This photo is intended to show the installed bracket.

                        Hose connections at Rocker cover.

                        Completed job.

just use large heat shrink to go over the hose connections at the Catch Can to secure it if u feel the need. Can be easily removed at any later date.

                            • Ya couldn't agree more Robert, I did intend to shrink wrap the hose connections but failed to find the shrink wrap in the shed. Will do it once I find the wrap.

Approximately what is the expected life of the filter element?
