Or lack of oil cooling the piston due a failed injector seal and resultant clogged up oil pickup.

        • 2008 D4D with 90K. Just dropped the oil and saw this... dont think its anything to be worried but will keep an eye on it. Sorry for the dodgy photo.
EDIT: Also should mention, had Toyo check the figures on the original injectors and all 4 are still in spec

          • Foxy, had mine checked out at my 40k and no problem. They reckon that they can now tell by you VIN whether you have the later version of seals or not. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me but they said that they were sure that early 2010 build (like mine) have the revised seals.

            • So far no more than a couple of instances out Australias 300,000 odd d4d's, was this thread a beatup on D4D motors like you get on other forums about Ranger's breaking in half and clutches in colarado's. It seems that this has gone into oblivion since nothing has come of it so I dont think I will worry about it for my new D4D. I have been to Roma for the last two weeks and can guarantee that every 3rd vehicle parked or travelling around town is a D4D Prado and all seem to be travelling a lot of km's according to owners. Mostly are in the range of 2011 and 2012 with 60 - 90,000k's and a hell of a lot of Oil and Gas company vehicles, included in this are the D4D Hilux's. Avis still are doing a booming trade with Prado diesel's to these companies and I would doubt if there had been any problems that they would be including them in their fleets of hundreds out here. Seems to have been a few months of speculation back in May on what should have been and what should happen.

              • I have heard of the Rangers cracking Roo , also Clutches in Colorado's , but then we do them all the time in Navara's as well , what about gearboxes in BT50's , timing chains in Navara's , transfers case's in jeeps ,4x4 with dpf's clogging inlet manifolds , it goes on and on , where do we stop , they all have their problems
I agree about the lease vehicles , they move them on quick time , thats common knowledge , but i would never buy a lease or ex mine vehicle for the simple reason as they are serviced with cost in mind not preventative maintenance
The strange thing is over here where we are we simply don't seem to be getting the failures here that you seem to be getting in the eastern states ( i am not having a go at you as i have heard it from plenty of other people) , maybe its the hard miles we have to do to travel anywhere

                • Sorry Roo I seem to have upset you but the numbers in the last couple of years are not very many compared to what is out there and people scaremongering on here doesn't do the right thing by those who have purchased from so many on here saying how great their vehicles are. If it happens it happens and no amount of scare tactics will stop "Mr. Toyota" sales. So I see you havent done much work as there only seems to be toyotas in your work list. Just maybe all other mechanics do all the fords and Nissans etc that break down or blowup for reasons I am sure you know, with out whinging about it. I get the feeling that you are only on here to Toyata bash. I see you help a lot of people on here but at the same time you bash the hell out of the vehicles so I dont see it being very productive. I have no interest in Toyota except I bought one after scouring PradoPoint for info on them compared to other makes. Maybe I was wrong to believe what 95% of Pradpointers say about their vehicles and how good they were and there are many.

                      • So why are people still buying from Toyota if the sky is falling down around our ears. May be there should not be a pradopoint if we all listened to you as we would not buy a Prado because it would be stupid to put up with all to crook/crap designs that you say they have or just put up a disclaimer at the home page to say that dont buy Prados because >>>>. I am not attacking you personally all I'm saying is that every thread that I have read you seem to be including every failure of the Prado as being what is generally happening which it is clearly not. Yes Toyota should be doing the right thing by their customers and yes I believe you are right in the fact that they have not managed previous warranty work properly. What is a bloke like me suppose to do now I've bought a crap Prado, go to Toyota and tell them that few people are having trouble with injectors, blocked oil screens or whatever and I want a replacement of my motor for a ford or whatever. They dont give a shite and it's not gunna happen

Roo I am not backstabbing any one as I have just as much to say on this matter as you do. You have to look at it from my perspective, what are we suppose to do besides not buying a Prado. Do we come to you and say here.s $17000 fix my motor that is only 3 months old or wait for something to go wrong, as the way you see it it can happen any time whether its serviced properly or not. I've seen tips blow off injectors for no reason at all except for being a faulty part that was under warranty and fixed the damage and yet there was no serviceable way to foresee and stop it from happening .

                          • It seems that the new generation 4WD's have more problems than you can poke a stick at, no matter what brand. Because those of us who actually get out into the bush with our fourby's need to know that our cars are going to bring us back. Roo, I have a question for you? I know you are wanting to get another 150, but given the problems why not get an 80 series or a 100. Those cars didn't seem to have a lot go wrong with them?

Cjsilk, if you do ever have an issue with your 150 see Roo. I have had him work on mine. Great job, and you know it's done properly from the get go.
