  • Get the injector feedback values checked as well. Ask them to inspect the oil pickup screen and clean it if lumpy. And I would get them to change both fuel filters but then I usually do that anyway.

    • Hi, Just been talking to a guy from Ultra tune and he said they are having Prado's and HiLux's coming in with injectors leaking (Fuel) and causing all sorts of problems .It does not appear to be the seals but the injectors themselves .I don't know if the electronic timing is slightly out or what but I noticed my girl after standing for 3weeks also started with a almighty rattle .I know it could be the lack of oil circulating as well so I'm waiting now for another cold morning start.Straight away the alarm bells went off scaring the living daylight's out of me wondering what is going on .I have the 60K service very shortly so I'll be following your advice mjrandom. They (Ultra) are using change over replacement injectors. I sure can't afford a big bill all that would cost !! Cheers Foxy

      • Foxy, have you changed the under bonnet fuel filter lately as I found my motor was much quieter (under load up hill with engine cold) this winter after I changed it out and this is consistent with findings from The Baileys Group. Have a read of this post http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post416645 under the 120 series diesel rattle thresd.

          • Riv Mate just read the thread not all of it as it is a big one . Mate I have a question .On the 150 is the first filter in the tank or on the chassis somewhere ? My secound filter as I said is a Racor 460 10micron .I went to that size because of fuel flow concerns .I see Roo suggests changing the secound filter at 15K's I think or there a bouts and leave the OE to 40K which in a way makes sense . but I'm not sure about the filter underneath ? Cheers Foxy

            • Foxy, the first filter sits between the tanks somewhere. I have not changed it myself but apparently it's not easy to get to without a hoist. Have a read of this tread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ter-dual-tanks. I am only using the OEM filter under the bonnet and changing it every 40k at this stage. I might reduce that down to 30k given the difference I noticed recently regarding the rattle.

              • Hi Riv, Mate, I have the SX shortie with one 87liter tank Some one has suggested it maybe internal ? So for me if that's the case it means a bigger cost to change .Anyone know if and where on the shortie is the first fuel filter. Cheers Foxy

                • I've just read most of this thread. Some of the fighting part I skipped Wasn't aware of this problem before buying my 2010 GXL. Is there a way I can verify if I have the right seats in the injectors myself, or should I take it straight to the mechanics to get checked, and possibly replaced?

                  • Uncy there is really no way of telling. How many km have you done? The later 150s have the new seals but there have been a couple of posts on here where some of the early 150s still had the older style seals. First check is to see if there is any build up on the oil pump pick up. If there is then the seals should be changed asap. If not keep an eye on it and change them when the valve clearance check is done.

                    • Thanks MJ.

My vehicle has done 72k, so it should have had them replaced at 40k (if my reading of the service manual is correct?)
I'll see if I can work out how to inspect the oil pump pickup and check it.

                      • Uncy there is a lot of discussion on here about the 40k valve check being an audio check only and not the proper pull it apart and check that the Toyota service manual apparently requires. The oil pick up screen can only be checked after the oil is dumped and a small camera is poked through the sump hole. If you have no symptoms then get the injector values and sump screen checked at the 80k service. The service people will require the car overnight to do a cold check. If you insist and manage to get the valve clearances checked properly that will involve removing the injectors and the seals replaced. At least that is what I am led to believe as I don't have a service manual to check.

                        • mj, that's my understanding also that the injectors have to come out at 80k for the valve clearance check. I have also read in one of the threadsthat some dealers do a shonky and try and bend the pipes so that the injectors don't need to come out. I guess you need to take it somewhere you can trust and make sure they give you back the old seals!

                          • called my mechanic today (Queanbeyan Diesel) who said they will check it when I bring it in to get the once over done on it. They are aware of the problem, but have never seen a vehicle have it.

                            • I am lost as to why Toyota have let this problem run into the 150 series!!!!
