  • Sadly I missed the Simpson comment and I too think it is totally inappropriate. On other fora I have seen members banned for life for less.

I have to say that I would prefer it if the technical posts were just about the facts and not trying to belittle other PPers in the process. It is hard for many of us who read and appreciate and respect both you guys when you have a public spat.

And I know my experience has strictly been with a 120 and this is a thread in the 150 section. So do I expect to have seal or injector trouble? No. Will I keep an eye on it? YES.

Can we please stick to the facts?

    • Roo,
I too and with Andrew on this one. We can choose to disagree on a huge range of things - that is life! I have been a victim of Toyota complacency but I dont will them or wish them harm. Just wish they would come to their senses and treat us honestly and fairly. Forlorn hope.

I ask you in the future to keep your comments technical, (think what you like - just cool down before you post), dont post garbage death wishes, it is a form of bullying and has no place of a quality forum such as PP - this forum is too valuable to too many for that sort of nonsense.

        • I asked about leaving it overnight for the valve check and was told that it was not necessary.

I don't understand how they can pick and choose what will be charged as an extra cost if it is in the service book?

Anyway, back to topic, I thought I would E Mail the coprorate Toyota website regarding this asking what servicing/inspections they are doing to address the potential of the issue... this is the reply:

I am pretty sure that this check was not done during my 40k service (my car was not left at the dealer overnight). I asked them about whether it should have been and the response was:

Just thought I would share this as it explains why some people are being asked to leave their 150 overnight for their 40k service and others aren't (read from other threads, cannot recall exactly where) and why others have had to ask for it.

To those that have the valves clearances checked at 40k, was it an extra charge on top of the fixed price? Did they change the seals for you also?

Either way, I will be confirming with my dealer whether it was done or not and if not, having it done next service and the 40k thereafter.

I just called Toyota and asked them why they did not do the seals when I got my 40,000 service done, and the dealership had never heard of it before......So they are calling Toyota and checking with them.........I will keep everyone posted.

            • I would be keen to hear what this ends up costing to perform this at every 40,000kms....

Also for those that do get it done, it would be good if they could get the "OLD SEALS" back and take some pics of them and post them up so we can all see what sort of condition they are after 40,000kms.....

              • As this is the 150 thread... I was of the opinion that ALL the 150s had the later seals. When did the seals change?

                • This is classic stuff.....I was told:
                  a) That Toyota Australia had changed the requirement to an "audible test only" despite what the service book required.
                  b) That I was "best off not having it done anyway".

Now I have what I believe to be a farily good relationship with my dealer, and all warranty issues (and there has been quite a few including replace in-tank fuel pump, replace radiator over-flow tank, replace mud flaps, replace tail shaft, software update on trani, several fixes for the 1500rpm vibe issuse) have all been done without a problem. So why give me the "spin" on the valve check?

Well one could assume (in order of answering the above a & b):
                  a) They didn't want to cover their costs under the fixed price service.
                  b) They felt their staff not up to the task (possibly had previous trouble with pulling the injectors out etc).

At the end of the day it didn't happen

I believe we do have the new ones although I did read somewhere that some early 150 D4D's had the old seals....can't remember which thread that was in.

                    • I believe the seals were changed sometime back in mid - late 08. My November 08 build had the new seals which was good. But also had 2 crap injectors which was bad.

I just hope mate, that the dealership that you work for, doesn't engage in these sorts of activities.
                            Carry on, John.
                            John Mate,

i know what you mean, certain dealerships actually look at things that are fine when there not doing warrenty injectors.

for example. a different toyota dealership i used to work at gave me a job card and told me it was out of warrenty RATTLE (injector rattle). they knew exactly what it was and so did i. but fore some reason they asked me to change the head gasket. you know trying to add labour hours for a something that wasnt even there.

well thats why i used to work there.
