Not too worried, but it has happened. Worth considering making egr coolers air cooled rather than coolant once flow is reduced

If you go to

Ozbush has a link to his “how to install EGR blanking plate”. It's for the 1KD-FTV engine.
I haven't done mine yet but the instructions look good, lots of pics.2007 120 D4D GX. When I owned an NW Pajero, I installed an SPV Industries EGR controller that could be turned on or off with a switch. It spliced in upstream of the MAF wiring.
I then used a scangauge X gauge to monitor the % that the EGR valve was open/closed.
Was a brilliant system that could be turned off at service time and threw no codes when in use as it reported certain engine temp values (or similar) to trick the EGR into staying closed.

My egr plate with a 7mm hole arrived yesterday, so today i got stuck into fitting it and pulling the egr to give it a clean.. I pulled the IC piping off and the large metal intake inc throttle body right up to the egr valve.
60,000kms on the clock, I was expecting a horror story like some of the posts on here. To my surprise, the egr valve was near on spotless! no hard build up, just some oil and soot! I stuck a long screw driver in with a rag attached and i managed to wipe alot of the shit off.
Fitted the plate, bolted everything back together, took it for a test drive and all good! no error codes! I did how ever, find oil in the intake. I read somewhere here that #### was against fitting a catch can? whats the reasoning behind that?
anyways it was a productive day, I changed the under body and under bonnet fuel filters, did the air filter and the cabin filter. This coming week my fuel manager pre filter and bracket should arrive, and next will be the oil change and egr coolant bypass.

I don't want to put words in ####'s mouth, but there are two schools of thought to the PCV system. One says to leave it alone, the oil vapours help "wash" the soot throughout the intake system. The other is drop a catch can in to stop the oil vapours to try and prevent the glue that is made. I think from the info that has been gathered if you're running a reduction plate for the EGR the oil vapours will definatly help "wash" the carbon gunk.
Personally I am waiting to be able to completely block my EGR system (manual mapper) and run a catch can. The reason this way is the best in my oppinion is the oil film in the intercooler makes it much more inefficient, especially with our front mount intercoolers where the oil will collect in the bottom of it. The only argument against this method is the upper cylinder is not getting lubricated from this oil vapour and it may cause slightly more wear on the valves and valve seats. I guess every thing has a down fall, you've got to choose what you think is best and hope it really is.[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift
