Just to make my post a little clearer, there is apparently two different part no's. One for the 2009 150 series prado and another for the 2010 (and later) 150 series prado.

I wondered what the little guard did. I too found that it doesn't fit back on with the Ryco filter and it wasn't all that secure with the Toyota filter. I reckon it it there to protect the drain as there is a possibility that the filter could move a lot and the drain could hit the inner guard.

      Cheers Brad.

        Filter Guard

If you replace the genuine filter with a Ryco Z699, to fit the guard you have to build up the diameter of the filter with a layer of tape otherwise the guard falls off.
Hi Just did the 80k service and I take it the guard is actually a clamp to stop the water trap from coming loose . Once upon a time one must have done this so Tojo put them on as a safe guard. Funny how they do some things. I use Wesfil / Cooper filters Part # WCF104 $25.00.

Wow, at that price I will change the fuel filter every 5000klm!

Does the clamp fit the Cooper filter well or does it need to be packed out like the Ryco?

          Cheers Brad.

It sure does But as this was an unnecessary change according to Toyota as the light didn't come on. I put the guard back on without thinking but it will get the toss next time.

I couldn't belive it when I found that I'd put the wrong jerry can into the fuel tanks.....yes it was the water jerry ! Problem here being that I was at Shotline in NT at the end of the Hay River Track . Luckily the motor was not started but we couldn't completely drain the tanks in the bush . Barnesy from Birdsville came to our rescue and towed it on his monster tilt tray back to Birdsville where the tanks were removed and cleaned out . I was surprised at how much sand was in the tanks so I'd suggest that it's a good idea to regularly change the fuel filters especially the one at the tank .Sure was a big relief to have it start up and run normally home to Sydney . Cheers Ross

Well i also drained some diesel, fuel from the strain on the end of the filter. There is a connection, on the strain plug under the filter to connect a brief duration of hose so you can catch and inspect the diesel fuel cleared from the filter.

That's why they make different coloured cans for us dummies to hopefully prevent that from happening.

I've started using fleetguard ff5159 main fuel filter and oil filter. Heaps cheaper and works well, I think the same fuel filter goes on 100 series cruisers etc.

It seems an overkill to do it that often with clean fuel but the main filter that they leave till the warning light comes on in my opinion should be done more often.
Diesel Care suggested 40-60,000 for the tank filter, changing more often if dodgy fuel suspected.
The Fuel Manager unit at 20,000 and the main at 40,000. Fuel Manager cartride $35
The Fuel Manager kit comes with bracket hose all fittings an sealer delivered to Perth for $301
I had to relocate my redarc battery isolator as it was mounted behind the original filter.
                        Whole job took 20 mins
Once out of warranty will go back to Terain Tamer filter kits at $50 for complete set, so change all at every service at that price.
my 2012 GX's fuel system warning light was on, Call 2 Toyota dealers/service to replace the filter, one told me starting from $190 and the other told me $195. called autobahn, $90 replaced with RYCO Z699,not sure how long this one will last.

I wonder if you opened the drain plug on the bottom of the diesel fuel filter, and drained it if that would solve the problem and ensure the warning light goes out?....change the filter, yes indeed, as soon as you can, but in the mean time I would immediately stop if the warning light came on and drain the fuel filter first...well, that's what you are supposed to do apparently
