Well this indicates the world takes, one take a phase back to make a recognized leap forward. All this verifying valve clearances and values oil pick-up displays and including extra energy filtration, where does it stop.

Guys I was surprised at the amount of sand that was in the tanks when they were pulled out after "Richard Cranium" accidentally mixed the jerrys and put water in the tanks out in the north Simmo . We'd filled up at a couple of outback places prior to this so I'm assuming that's where the sand came from . Luckily I'd taken both fuel filters with me otherwise it's quite a wait to get them to Birdsville .
I've got a Waterwatch alarm but I'm wondering now if a pre filter would've been a better proposition ?
        Cheers Ross

I run a Racor filter, I preferred this to the water watch, the reason is it is guaranteed to stop 98% of water, so if water does get in the system and you can't turn the motor off straight away water won't get through. You can also option with a water detector alarm which will activate if any moisture is detected in the fuel. Needless to say a 10 micron unit will also filter out the sand. Cheers Leigh

Any algae is an instant warranty deal breaker. BP cover algae and associated damage as a fuel warranty claim.

BP ultimate is very similar to Caltex Vortex, but Quality control on Caltex delivery is marginal IMHO (we run the wife's petrol car on Caltex unleaded and I always ask about the reliability of diesel at Caltex when refuelling it. In 12 months I've had four Caltex operators acknowledge they knew of instances when regular diesel went into Vortex underground tanks. if four admit it, how more regularly does this happen?).

Two very good points. I only ever use BP for the reason you cover in your first paragraph.
