  • Engine oil level

Hey there guys, this is my first post!
So i recently got a brand new LC Prado 150 with the 1KD-FTV engine.
As per dealer recommendation, i went to do a break in oil change at 1K kilometers.
Everything was fine until i saw that they charged me for 8QTS of engine oil (Manual states around 7.4QTS) so after i got back home i checked the dipstick and noticed that they overfilled the engine if we follow the dipstick marks.
The oil is at least 30%-40% higher than the "Full" mark.

    Should i worry about this?

Yes. Drain some oil to bring it down to the full mark.
Basically what can happen is the crankshaft could be partially submerged in the oil and when running will aerate the oil and cause pressure loss in the lube system.

I still wonder why would the dealer overfill the engines on purpose. This is such a PITA that i have to do this.
I would have done the oil change by myself if i knew they would screw up big time like this.

Any more opinions regarding what i should do?

Being that you are overseas the part number would be hard to help on. Different countries get oil filters from different places, which means different part numbers. In Australia the part number is 90915-YZZD2, which is also fitted to some petrol engines. I would take it back to the dealer and ask them to correct the oil level.

My toyota dealer also over fills the oil as per the mark on dip stick. I did ask the question but to long ago to remember the reason.

After reading this thread I checked my oil after a recent service and it was about 30mm above full, I've drained out a litre of oil and it's still just above full.
I'll be doing my own oil changes from now on.

Just remember guys, the correct procedure to checking the oil level. The filter will drain back overnight, start the vehicle and let it run for a minute, turn vehicle off and check it after 3-5mins. Should be on the full mark

I think what would be more helpful is an actual Litre amount. Is it exactly 7L or bit more/less?

I searched a bit around the internet and it seems that this is a common problem with all Toyota engines.
The dispstick design is seriously flawed and it smears oil all over the stick, the only way to check the level properly is if you really dirty oil or drive for a couple thousand k's until the oil gets dark enough to be able to get the oil level correctly.
When the oil is new, it's not accurate because its almost impossible to see the oil level correctly.
Such a PITA, this never happened in my european (BMW / Audi) and even korean (Hyundai) cars.
