  • Provent 200 ratlle

My Provent is rattling and driving me nuts as it's amplified in the cab. Very noticeable around 1200 - 1400 rpm and when feathering the throttle. If I take the lid off of the Provent the noise goes away. Tried giving the spring in the lid a bit of a stretch, that just changed the "tune".

Mate's got exactly the same setup as me and there's no noise.

    Is there a fix?

    Thanks in advance

No issues with mine, is yours a genuine Provent and not a Provent style?

      Provent 200 ratlle

Not wanting to hijack, but where can you buy a provent for a 150? I can only find provent styles (knock offs)

That rattle drove me insane. My fix was to use a zippy tie on the bottom valve to stop the valve from moving. That was the temp fix and now have installed a restricter to the bottom hose between the Provent and turbo. I am using a 25 mm tube from turbo to Provent and made a brass plug, 25 mm round and drilled a 8 mm hole. This has almost stopped the noise and to date has not over pressurized the Provent.
The reason it rattles is 4 cylinder motors have a long pulse compared to 6 or 8 cylinder motors. The rattle is the valve moving because of the pressure change in the main housing compared to the line to the turbo.

1 - is it genuine? I hope it is, it's what I asked and paid for.
2 - the place that fitted it ordered 2 in, on for me, one for my mate. Did both cars over 2 sequential days. Exactly the same fit out. Mine rattles, his doesn't.
3 - they do not normally fit Provent's, I forced them to do it. So I know what this is going to lead to, "that's what we recommended but you insisted etc, etc...."

Rusty - how do I access the bottom valve?

            Thanks

The bottom valve is behind the plastic cover, held by several clips in the molding. Gently (with your finger nails) pick the claws that wrap and this cover will come off. It does not need force. Then you can access the spring on the valve.

Your mates car - 4 or 6 cylinder?

When my first unit split the valve the shop rang provent and they had not seen that before (failed valve) and replaced it. They also said the 4 cylinder motors caused the valve to rattle.

Rusty, Mate's car is exactly the same D4D October 2014 built, came over on the same boat. He lives in the scrub so I had both cars here in Perth getting them set up identically. That's how I knew something was not right with mine.

Thank God!!!!! Thanks to this thread I have finally figured out what was causing the mind numbing-ly annoying rattle that I could hear in the engine bay when I was accelerating from idle, which then disappeared at about 1800 rpm. Its been driving me absolutely insane since last year when I installed the provent 200. Off to the shed to fix it right now....Awesome stuff, guys.

Hi, Just wondering if you have an update on the restricter. did you stay with the 8mm hole - or any other information would be great.

I've just purchased and installed a Provent 200, and over a two week period the thing has started to rattle. I couldn't work out what it was and thought that it was the motor. Anyway had a mate rev the motor up/down 900 - 1500 to find out and when I took the lid off the Provent the rattle stopped. When I put it back on the rattle is back. SO I think I have the 4cyl motor rattle.

                          Any update would be great

I thought I read somewhere that you could buy a stronger spring to strengthen the valve?

Can't seem to find that info anywhere. Unless my google search string skills are lacking... Any chance you can link up that info?
