With my last 2 new (petrol) cars (a Corolla and an MX-5), when I took them in for the 1000km service with a pack of full synthetic oil for the first change, both service managers strongly recommended that I NOT do an oil change. Said that the cars not only didn't need an oil and filter change at the 1000km service, but in fact would run in better if I left the mineral oil in till 10,000km. They were happy to go to full synthetic at 10,000 km. Toyota and Mazda recommendation. No manufacturer recommends 1000 km oil change these days. Is just a check over. What do I do with my new 2.8? Will p[rpbably have a chat tyo the service guys and ask the question again.

I checked detail on my first service. Oil is not changed normally for the first service and was also told it is only semi-synthetic from the factory and for servicing. My dealer is happy to use a high quality fully synthetic oil of my choice e.g. Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 - either supplied by me or they can obtain it.

Funny, back when I had my first 'service' I had to specifically request an oil and filter change. An hour later they came out and told me they hadn't received any oil for the new 2.8L and therefore they couldn't change the oil. Unbelievable that a major Toyota workshop didn't have engine oil in stock.
I ended up buying genuine oil & filter (this was before Penrite and other brands had a listing the new 1GD engine) from another dealer for roughly $210 for 10L. Thank god other options are available now, even if it is 5w not 0w.2015 2.8L GX Auto. White.
