Ok so we are told there's no oil problem. We have been told that the incorrect oil was used. The right viscosity but not low ash. We have returned the car for a second inspection and the vehicle is not using oil. We have contacted Toyota Australia and will no longer be using this dealer. I've made numerous phone calls and don't believe the non ash oil as such has caused damage. However we will be purchasing a extended warranty. Disappointing that this happened but hey were all human. Just hope no issues down the track as this is a long term vehicle.

        Anyway happy days

            WOW...!!! That's shyte!!!

How can you tell if the DPF has been affected? Coz, as you know, there's BIG $$$ involved there!

I should add... I would be asking the offending dealer to supply an extended warranty at no cost to you.

Agreed.. Also ask to have the DPF replaced as there may have been damaged caused by the high levels of ash being created.

I wonder how high ash oil causes oil consumption. Sounds a bit off. If it's mineral oil and burning off quicker then maybe.

All hell would have broken lose had user supplied the wrong oil, nothing matters if Toyota. Surely all the wrong oil types clearly say 'not for use with vehicles fitted with DPF'. So a valid point ask for new DPF. Do it now or later they will find excuses like if it had to happen would have happened ages ago and what not. Look after yourself.
D4D. How long will it last?

Well, how about that, a Toyota dealer clearly isn't using genuine Toyota oil!!!!

If the wrong oil was used (even with correct weight) it can cause all sorts of issues, including to but not limited to excessive oil usage. All this "non low ash" oil has been burnt, and the resulting ash has certainly been caught by the DPF. This has unarguably shortened the life expectancy of the DPF. I would advise at a minimum the vehicle has the DPF removed and manually cleaned in an ultrasonic. As it was a Toyota dealer they really should be replacing the DPF at their cost.

How did Toyota diagnose the worng oil was used, did they dip a finger in the used oil and lick it or was an independent oil analysis undertaken?

What about your oil pickup screen? they seem to be easily blocked under other non ideal operating conditions eg blow by from ineffective injector sheets?

sorry to hear of your woes -- re extended warranty -- you will be forced to use toyota to service the rig and they WILL bend you over for the price of each and every service they attempt to complete

i would be telling them the serving costs are theirs for the duration of the standard warranty

I'm not sure it's that big of an issue. However my mother is a solicitor and will send them a few letters if they don't replace dpf. The low engine oil light only came on after doing 14000kms we were a little over due for service. I've spoken with a lot of mechanics and supposedly these new common rails do use oil. The amarok is meant to be really bad.

Anyway I will request a new dpf to be fitted, if they don't play ball I'll get my solicitor to send a letter or two. I have NFI how they came to the conclusion of the wrong oil was used. I actually have no idea what happened.

                          1. Took it in for 40k service @ 44k and engine oil was low. Last serviced at 31k. - We were advised to bring back in a 1000kms to check if it had used oil.

                          2. Returned 10 days later to check oil levels. Was told oil levels all fine. So we questioned what was wrong with vehicle then. Young bloke said the wrong oil was used. (Lots of not nice words). Escalated to Operations Manager who assured us that the wrong oil hadn't been used. I said WTF is going on? Investigation was taken place (Bullshit excuses made up). Received a call the next day to say that the right oil had been used but not a low ash oil. They filled the car full of diesel and that was that. I said we'll be in touch.

                          3. Got the CBFs

                          5. Emails to the dealer with toyota Australia attached.

                          Wish me luck

.... and the common rail saga continues! How can a brand new vehicle use a litre of oil between services? Somethings not right. I think I'll buy a petrol next time.

I have near 40k on my 2.8 Kakadu and it does not use a drop of oil between services, oil is always on the full mark.

So no straight answers. The vehicle is fine, I'm not worried at all. However I've got toyota australia involved and in trying for an extended warranty.
