  • 2.8l 1GD-FTV engine enhancement

    Hi Guys,

Unichip have updated there website and are now showing power and torque figures for the chipped 2.8l Prado

    http://unichip.com.au/suitable-for-p...ota-hilux-28lt

    Expect
    184kw
    638Nm Torque

I am seriously considering this option. I think the above values are when its run at max so with a more sedate setting I can see that it will transform the slug.

    Thanks
    Doug

Roo Systems are releasing their ECU remap in a couple of weeks too. Sounds like the 2.8 ECU has been well and truly cracked now.

Just had a big chat to Paul from uni-chip nice bloke and very helpful I have been leaning towards a ecu flash rather than chip but now I'm undecided. The chip is more controllable and is monitoring the engine parameters while adjusting them to get the most performance but with out the chance of a big bang!
The best news was they are working on a system for the Trans ecu it should keep it locked up longer and will just be a add on box to the chip hopefully available lat next year
Arb colour code deluxe bar, safari snorkel, lightforce venom HID's, GME uhf remote face, redarc tow pro, redarc bcdc 1240, pioneer platform, 40" curved light bar, dual battery, 3" SS exhaust, EGR mod, trans cooler upgrade, provent catch can, scangauge 2, diesel care secondary fuel filter, Tin's bash plates and actuator gaurd, 2in Bilstien and kings lift,

You will notice the autos behavior is much better just by adding power and torque to the engine.

I have a Unichip piggy back ecu in 2 of my hiluxs. One auto and the other manual, Before the unichips I loved the manual as the auto was lazy and sluggish where as after the chip was fitted I now enjoy the auto, It smooth and actually knows what its is doing.

After months and months of talking with tuners and reflash ''experts" Unichip was the way for me but It does all come down to the tuner.

5 maps on the uni or one on the reflash.

Turn the uni off for diagnostics, reflash stays,

Sell the vehicle sell the uni, Reflash is lost money.

Id hope your words not theirs - it would be dissapointing and untrue to suggest an increase in power will not shorten an engines life.

Just curious, I assume both ECU and chip options increase rail pressure?

Is the improvement considerable? Do you or anyone happen to know what torque the ac60f 6spd transmission is design to handle? My only thoughts and concerns relate to the drive train. I'm sure the engine is well designed and considerably over engineered.

                Thanks

Yes my explanation, if there is nothing that goes out of the safe range than it shouldn't affect life of engine. Possibly components like the injectors from running higher pressure.

Yes they both do. The above chip changes boost, rail pressure, fuel injection timing and duration.

There the things pushing me towards a uni now. I like being able to turn off for when it goes to toyota to keep warranty.

Drove from Wollongong to Crd automotive solutions in Fairly (Newcastle way) as I found someone that is excited about tuning and best of all happy to run you thru the whole process as well as talking the time on the phone to answer any questions you have.

The 2nd hilux was tuned 40mins South of Wollongong for pure convenience and next time its up near Newy CRD will be fixing the terrible job we received.

That's another reason the unichip is the best IMHO. Fully removable from the rig and also Plug and play unlike the Ecu shop MMKD and the HKS F-con ID that require hard wiring.

The difference is night and day. I picked up just shy of 200NM at the wheels of torque and 80RWHP.

I opted for 4 tunes and one immobilizer tune.

                          1- All out power
                          2-Tow tune
                          3-Economy
4-Standard ( Good for diagnostics and when the wife drives in the rain)
5-Immobilizer ( remove map switch and it takes all rail pressure away.)
