  • Loud Knock/Tick when turned off

    Hey Guys

Been browsing on the Prado forums for a bit, went from a Holden > Ford > Subaru > Landrover and now to the Prado and lets me say so much happier . I started doing all my own servicing and work on the car and the forums have been a life saver, so thanks to all, trying to make it an hobby I have this issue which I'm hoping to shed some light on which a few mechanics haven't been able to diagnose.

    I have a Prado 150 2010 KDJ150 Diesel Manual, No Mods.

The issue is, After a day of driving and come to stop I always wait a few minutes then turn the car off, When the car turns off after a few seconds I hear an extremely loud tick/knock, it only happens 2 - 3 times in a period of 10 minutes then goes away. I have attached a picture of where I hear it the loudest

Some days it so so loud I can hear it at the other end of the house, I noticed a friend of mine has the next model up, same engine and does not make this knock.

If anyone has an opinion or information please post

    Cheers

Silly question but have you brought it into a Toyota dealer for a look?

It will be heat from the turbo cooling down. Mine has done this for several years. The cast iron exhaust manifold expands and contracts when cooling.
Hasn't caused any issues other than the loud click noise.

        @ Nanbar

Yeah I went there to show them and boom nothing happened, no sound. This is probably because I live 10 minutes from them and didn't get warm enough. If it gets worse I will bring in.

        @ Rusty62
Thanks for that, I haven't noticed any other issues just that noise, was getting worried. Cheers for the reply.
