  • Hi John,

I was able to monitor one of past three burns via Torque, I actually didn't see any increasing temperature during the burn (still 500-700c), however, they it did finish in 6 mins (10-15% drop, finished at 2%). I didn't pay much attention to DPF% building up, well, I'm doing it now.

    • JohnLynn, Yes the DPF % is going up at a faster rate than what it did before, and I also agree with vxowner18 that the burn completes much quicker than before as well. Only time will tell if this is actually a good thing or not.

Hi 2016VX, I've got my stats here for your reference,

287km to build up from 2%-100% (80% Highway),
'Re-Calculation or Passive Burn' did occur from a cold start to the end of driving (can't keep eyes on Torque while driving lol, so didn't know how that happened in details).
11 mins to burn off (100%-4%) on 60-80km/h limit road with a few red lights.
I didn't notice any change to fuel consumption yet. I have to see that till next fill up.

        • Torque will log data, I have done it in the past but have forgotten how as I use Techstream now. Could you try to log? I would be very interested in seeing if the results, if I can be any help I could try on torque which would mean scratching my head trying to remember how I did it about three years ago, I have a feeling there was a long standing bug in sending the results from torque to a webserver or email or something but pretty sure I did get some usable logs.

Sure, I will work out if I could find any log, I may be able to upload some screen shots if I can find any. As far as I recall, the DPF% dropped 18% from a cold start (54%) to end of trip (36%), I checked on google map, the distance I travelled was about 48km, of which 36km was highway driving (100km/h limit), and I was pretty sure I didn't see any temp reading higher than 450c.

            • I tried logging with torque today and found it does work fine, I found it harder to convert the figures to a graph in Excel but here is a screen shot of a short journey.
The vertical axis is both DPF temperature and % soot. The horizontal axis is time. I have only included these three parameters for simplicity and to make it easy for me to find out how to do it.
By coincidence I started off with a cold engine and you can see that the % began to rise then fell back without the DPF temperature ever being hot enough for a "proper" burn. I assume this is yet another instance of the "recalculation"
Do you have all the pids you need for torque? if not if you send me a PM I can send you all the ones that I have.
I hope this chart makes sense:

              • Hi John, didn't know Torque was capable to do this much, I've got soot%, exhaust temp in Torque, I will try to put some useful charts here later.

                • I was going to see if I could log some useful info this morning, unfortunately, I didn't know I had to touch that damn little PLAY button to use logging function...

Sadly I picked up another instance of the "recalculation" from a cold start. The DPF% started from 76%, dropped to 58% at the time I drove off Highway, and ended at 62% before engine was turned off. Max exhaust temp was 418c. Total km travelled was 43km.

                  • for those that havent recieved a letter, Toyota have issued a service recall for prado, foretune and hilux involving a reflash and inspection of the DPF .

Gee they were a bit slow to the party

                    • Thanks for posting, do you know when the recall was issued and could you take a photo of it? I ask because as I posted in the DPF switch thread my Prado has it's final capped service next Wednesday and the dealer said when I asked about an update that there isn't one.

                      • John, i got my letter on Friday as posted in the other thread- May 2016 build. A friend with a Prado about 2 weeks older got his a week or two ago. The letter has a reference number of LGG71. They give a phone no. of the Toyota Recall Customer Support Line of 1800 987 366. There is a copy of the letter either on this thread or the other one.

                        • Thanks for pointing that out, I had seen the post and as my eyes strained to read it I thought it said "Dear Toyota Hilux Owner" I haven't read the Hilux forum but I regularly look at the Fortuner forum and they have known about this and had the update a long time ago. I don't know why Prado seems to be left until last although I have read some speculation that it may have been harder to modify on a Prado. I have no idea if this is either true or if it is true why a Prado with the same engine would be more involved.

                          • The saga continues. I rang Toyota to find out why some letters say switch to be fitted and some don't. Answer in a nutshell? NFI. He thought that it could be the service issues that particular cars have had. Very helpful Toyota Guest experience! He did say to talk to the dealer about it. I did indicate that the tow fee to Toyota for a car failing in the Simpson is about $10k and other more remote areas a lot higher. To be continued after I get to the dealer.

                            • I got my letter from Mr Toyota today. It says to contact my preferred dealer 'without delay'...for a software update and a DPF check.
Plus (if I request it) enable 'DPF custom mode', which gives me some of what my Scangauge already monitors.
                              No DPF button offered tho'.

I'll do the paperwork and officially request a DPF button on the basis that I'll be driving very long remote tracks, and the nearest Toyota Dealer could be well over 1,000Km by a driveable route.

                              • My letter and DPF leaflet arrived today which is fortuitous as my last capped service is tomorrow. I will post what happens when I get there with letter in hand. As I have mentioned before the dealer claimed to not know anything about this update when I booked the service last week. This does not inspire me with confidence as I cannot imagine how the service department of a dealership can possibly not know of DPF problems.
