Last weekend, I had the shortest burn off ever since new. The burn started when I stopped at the red lights before EASTLAND shopping centre, and the burn finished right before I found a parking spot. That was pure low speed driving around for 6-7mins, I could see from Torque the soot% dropping at 15-20% rate. Highway way regen in my case (after ECU update) normally takes 10-15 mins now.

If this is true, the slower speed, the faster burn off.

RPP, I also concur with your regen stats. Your theory sounds correct , as I noticed the problem as i slowed coming back into Syd traffic following a weekend return trip syd- coffs Harbour.

The smoke from a standing stop was crazy. . A long high speed drive on motorway didnt stop the regen.
So on the Monday resolved to book in to get DPF fixed, just before I made the call i found the recall letter - what a weird coincidence.
Im booked in for next week. The next day, the regen finished.
Im wondering if I hold the record for the longest DPF regen on PP?
    I'D also like a button.
    Hi Bing10,
I have logged all my DPF burns (more or less) for 25,000Kms to date. I have found that DPF burns take anywhere from 70Kms to over 100Kms at highway speeds (100-110Kms/hr). But at low speeds 10-20Kms/hr it can take just 6-8Kms.

    Less is more.
I surmise that at high speeds the regen process can barely keep ahead of the sooting up process.
There may be a speed at which the regen process can't make any headway!

My last capped service has been completed, the dealer at my request did the update after the service. The soot was 70% when I left the vehicle with them and 2% when I drove it away. Only a short drive home so no idea whether it increases at the same rate or still does the recalculation but I am monitoring and will post the results after the next regen.

I didn't receive any official letter from TOYOTA in regarding to DPF recall, neither was any obvious DPF issue there at time of the routine 12-month service point. I told my dealership that my prado took ages to finish a burn (20-40 mins and longer depending on driving condition), then service advisor put in my VIN number and came back to me, my prado was due for an ECU update, which was all about DPF burns (to burn hotter, quicker, and more often), I was wondering if I could get a manual burn button along with the ECU update, he told me they couldn't do it unless they could get permission from TOYOTA. I asked him to send my VIN and request of installing the button to TOYOTA, in about two weeks time, permission was 'Granted'. Don't know the story behind, but I've got a manual button installed under warranty.

    Hi RPP

I’m in the same boat and want to push for a manual button for the same reasons as you. I’d be keen to hear how you go getting one.

    Cheers

Could be an interesting meeting! Get them to ring Toyota on the spot?

My letter and DPF leaflet arrived today which is fortuitous as my last capped service is tomorrow. I will post what happens when I get there with letter in hand. As I have mentioned before the dealer claimed to not know anything about this update when I booked the service last week. This does not inspire me with confidence as I cannot imagine how the service department of a dealership can possibly not know of DPF problems.

The saga continues. I rang Toyota to find out why some letters say switch to be fitted and some don't. Answer in a nutshell? NFI. He thought that it could be the service issues that particular cars have had. Very helpful Toyota Guest experience! He did say to talk to the dealer about it. I did indicate that the tow fee to Toyota for a car failing in the Simpson is about $10k and other more remote areas a lot higher. To be continued after I get to the dealer.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had seen the post and as my eyes strained to read it I thought it said "Dear Toyota Hilux Owner" I haven't read the Hilux forum but I regularly look at the Fortuner forum and they have known about this and had the update a long time ago. I don't know why Prado seems to be left until last although I have read some speculation that it may have been harder to modify on a Prado. I have no idea if this is either true or if it is true why a Prado with the same engine would be more involved.

John, i got my letter on Friday as posted in the other thread- May 2016 build. A friend with a Prado about 2 weeks older got his a week or two ago. The letter has a reference number of LGG71. They give a phone no. of the Toyota Recall Customer Support Line of 1800 987 366. There is a copy of the letter either on this thread or the other one.
