    Hi Bing,

Mine is Jan 18 build VX, does not have the "Regen in progress" message staying on, 3000km post ECU update, still burns every 270-300km-ish, RPM increases to 800-900 during the entire burn, but obviously faster than ever before, didn't see more frequent burns, didn't see higher burn temperature either (via Torque App) as pre TOYOTA service guy advised "more and hotter burns".

    Cheers,

    • thanks vxowner18 . reading the letter with the recall, leaves me with the impression the RPM will wind up to 1200RPM and the "regen in progress" message will stay on during a burn. obviously I was wrong...... or I cant read

          Cheers,
From the Customer Service Exercise (this is not a recall) letter. “Custom mode can be enabled free of charge by the Toyota dealer at the owner’s request at the time of booking”. So it’s not automatically part of the ECU update unless you ask for it. Or if you did maybe it doesn’t work as has happened in my case.

          • For what it's worth, the dealer called me to say the car was ready to collect but that they were unable to enable Custom mode. I replied that I was in no hurry, and told them to keep it until they had. They rang back an hour later to say they'd worked it out. It wasn't until about ~300km later when the message popped up on the display that I was able to confirm they actually had, and not just fobbed me off to get the car out of their workshop.

            • Had mine done last week.
The Custom Mode message on my 2018 GXL is actually a message not a flashing DPF symbol.
The first regen occured 358Kms after I left the Dealer. It took 10Kms to complete. All at city speeds.

The message seems to come on immediately the DPF saturation reaches 100%, and turns off at 6%. The DPF temp was still very high so the regen got down to 4%.

Mr. Toyota has approved a DPF button and am booked in for the install in a couple of weeks, under warranty I believe.

Thanks Faulco, I will try to ask my dealership to enable custom mode for me at 18 month service point.

                    Hi Gurilla,

I would be surprised if you hadn't had any regeneration since new. In my case the regeneration will run at 300km-ish interval.

Unless your prado is the perfect sample of effective passive regeneration, you should have experienced some regenerations however you just didn't feel it undergoing.

                    Cheers,

I finally got the message to display. I returned to my toyota service centre. I said I could' t get the message to display.
They asked if I had custom mode engaged - " Yes". They then said I only done 900km since forced regen and reflash of software, I need to do more k's before auto regen activates.
                        Really???
I did point out the recall letter states regen occurs every 200- 300km.
After a discussion with his "software specialist", another reflash and forced regen, he admitted the custom mode was not engaged despite statement on my written job sheet from the 1st reflash.
Following another 318km, the message displayed.
I must say, the revised software is good. After 3 regens I was aware of, no smoke and little odour.
Each regen took only 4-5 km of city driving.
                        280 - 318 km between regens.
                        Engine speed goes from 800 ( A/C on } 650 ( a/c off) to 950RPM during regen.

Re Gurilla's experience, if you are not watching your tacho and do not have a message displayed, you would not notice a regen is taking place especially during steady driving. Its a very seemless process .

At last my prado is no longer a 2 stoke lawnmower.

                          • At last. The update was done weeks ago and an application made for a switch. Mr. T has approved and it will be fitted on Friday. With luck it will never be used but just like a second spare wheel in remote areas it will provide another level of reassurance.
As an aside, has anyone noticed that the engine seems a little smoother post latest update?

                              • Back to the dealer and now have "custom mode" working. Two regens since, approx 300km between and 20-25km to complete. I have to say it gives me a bit more confidence now that I know what's going on. When I was at the dealership they did say that they were having issues activating "custom mode" in 4WDs (i know they're all 4WDs, their words) with after market accessories that put a parasitic drain on the battery. So I guess I wasn't the only one to have "custom mode" not work on the first attempt. Now I just have to wait and see if I get lucky in the DPF switch lottery.
