Hello all, long time reader, brand new member, first time poster. Has anyone looked into putting a larger oil filter on the 3ltr D4D? I have no doubt there would be a remote set up available, that just wouldn't interest me. I'd be after something that screw's on the original oil filter point but with a larger capacity......... Google hasn't given me any answer's and that's as far as i've gotten

It's not a larger filter but Ryco make a "high efficiency" SynTec filter with a 15,000km service life (I still change it at 10k). That's the one I use.
THE ULTIMATE IN OIL FILTRATION
Ryco SynTec™ is a fully synthetic, high efficiency oil filter, designed for a 15,000 kilometre service interval. Its high efficiency media is designed to remove more dirt keeping your engine cleaner. This oil filter is designed for the motoring enthusiast who wants the best oil filtration available on the market to protect their engine.
Ryco SynTec™ has been engineered to exceed standard original equipment filters utilising Ryco SynTec™ synthetic Nano fibre media that has superior particle removal to withstand the harsh conditions arising from extended drain periods. This media also offers additional very high initial efficiency (99.8% @ 25 micron) not offered by standard filters and low restriction to flow which is beneficial at engine start up when cold. All this provides the vehicles engine with increased engine protection within the service life of the filter (15,000 kms).

I went down the path of the Ryco Hi Efficiency filter, Ended up buying Genuine oil filters from Toyota. after inspecting Valvoline, Coopers and Ryco filters I feel more confident in the build of Toyota filters. However I prefer Ryco Fuel Filters (for petrol cars) as they're generally made of alloy (same as the corresponding thread on fuel rails)

Yeah I usually go for Ryco filter's and ALWAYS use Penrite oil's. I just found the oil went dark pretty quickly....... I was reading the thread on EGR restriction plate and might look into that also. I'm the second owner of the car and know the company who owned it before. Toyota alway's serviced it so I know everything is up to date regarding Toyota re call's. Cheer's for the reply's though guy's

When you can get the genuine filters so cheap I wonder if it's worth it. I paid 22 bucks over the Toyota counter the other day for a 1kd filter. You can buy genuine in bulk off eBay for 10-13 bucks each.

I use Donaldson filters as I can get through work. Their equivalent for the Ryco Z418 is P550335.
A 34mm longer filter with the same specs is P550400 which Im planning to try at the next service.

I've always been sceptical of the "high flow" oil filters ever since I first saw them. To me it just seems obvious that the filtration wouldn't be as good if it allows oil to go in and back out faster than a regular filter. I just thought it was the only half as*ed attempt at positive spin they could put on it to justify charging you an extra 30%. And the reason why they claim to have an extended service life is because they must not filter as well, since they allow so much oil to pass through it in such a higher volume more quickly and all.
The sales pitch with it is so blatantly obvious that they've already identified a problem you never actually had previously... That somehow for some reason your regular oil filter wasn't spitting oil out back into the engine block as quickly as it should've. Making you think this is inadequate, even though you don't really know why. Just seems so rediculously stupid to me & has no added benefit whatsoever to how your motor performs, filters oil or how long your engine will last. Some pick pocket marketing ploys are more obvious than others and this one raises a big red flag. And for Ryco to claim its designed for the motoring enthusiast is a cop-out and insulting haha. It's like saying that chrome look snap on hub caps are designed for the motoring enthusiast haha. I'll stick to Ryco's standard oil filter thanks.
The very best thing you can do to help "protect" your engine on a daily basis is to warm it up at idle before driving & putting load on it. I do this every morning and every afternoon when going to and from work. I hate driving with a cold engine and avoid it whenever possible.Last edited by Brett1979; 06-04-2017, 10:50 PM.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

Dealers here use the same 90915-YZZD1 oil filter in all the engines that it fits and that includes the 1KD.
Its used in the small gas engines as well as the diesel engines.
I thought it might be too small thats why i opted for an aftermarket filter.
Running Chevron Delo 400 LE 15W-40 and the Fram Ultra XG3600. That filter barely fits because its too tall.
