Yep, which is why the Cummins crate engine would be the most simple option. Grunty 3L engine isn't the best option for reliability. Cummins comes with wiring harness etc designed to hook into the instrument panel for replacement of different engines. Hopefully our KD will be fine, but if it blows up we will definitely look at options.

    Cummins Crate engine. 2.8L turbo.

If you want a grunty AND reliable 3l engine then rebuild the d4d but with forged or 110 series pistons...then you can ramp up boost/fuel etc and start getting some nice power figures. If i was unlucky enough to hole a piston this is my plan. Aside from the weak pistons the actual motor is a tough unit. Even if the injectors play up, with stronger pistons they should not damage the engine..
2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

has anyone considered sliding liners into the damaged bores, I went to see an engine builder for my other car last week and I asked about the pistons, he suggested leaving it until you have issues and just put liners into the block. He said that He has done a few Toyota blocks and never had any issues.
