    Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

1500 kms up and I'm averaging 9.6 ltr per 100km. Was at 11.something for a long time and then settled. This is mostly country road sealed/unsealed with a bit of 4wd. I'm accepting the computer reading, rather than my calculations, as it is impossible to get a consistent fill at the pump. Just when I think I have it to the max and hang up the pump and put the cap back on and that bloody gurgle comes in and down she goes. Doesn't really matter as the range tells me how many kms to the next fill anyway and that's good enough for me most of the time these days. No big trips planned for this year. Being a lover of toys, I think it is great that you can have one meter for fuel consumption and the other for range.
    Cheers

My vehicle is also showing 8.6l/100km after driving from Adelaide to Eildon, this was it's first trip home from the dealer
It has now up to 10l/100km but spent today in low range in the high country.

Want to swap ? If I got 13l/100km out of my petrol 150 I'd be ecstatic! Around town (short trips) I get mid 17l/100km! Even on long freeway trips with no load I can only get it down to 13l/100km (that's the absolute best). A mixture of freeway/around town usually gets 15s. Never seen above 900km from a tank.

No bar, no winch, no lift, no roof rack (only sports cross bars), no steel drawers (my Drifta drawers weigh 15-20kg max). Only other fuel consumption effecting accessory is the 275/65/R17 BFG ATs.

Disappointed considering the claimed 11l/100km combined average. Just can't see that AT tyres and sports cross bars add up to 4-5l/100km.

Mind you, seems to be a few issues with the diesel too (flat spot, engine vibration/rattle) so can't complain too much.

          Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I've got just over 4,000 km on the clock and was a bit disappointed for the first couple of tanks getting ~9.7 L/100km after stepping out of a 2010 GX with a butt ugly 'tuff' bullbar and mine kit on it that was averaging 9.4 L/100km without being a slave to the little green leaf. I have been very pleased with the last tank though averaging 8.9 l/100km on the computer and having it confirmed at the bowser after getting 1,365 km out of 121 L. I have been taking it easy but also towed the camper trailer for about 200 km in there and did some sand work. I definitely notice the difference in the consumption when I switched from shell diesel to Woolworths (Caltex) for the 2 last tanks. Could be just the engine running in a bit and loosening up.

            Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I am getting around 10.2 L/100km according to the computer. Mostly highway. Vehicle is a GXL auto with genuine roof racks, alloy tray. I was hoping for a bit better but maybe the roof tray is affecting the fuel usage. I have only done 900ks so hopefully as time goes on the economy will get better. So far the 150 is using more fuel for less get up and go than my 120.

mine still hasn't changed.. get around 12 on average , it's currently sitting on 11.5/100

Bullbar, winch, bigger tyres (that correct the speedo), drawers always in, snorkel, roof racks.. on the freeway it improves, but around town this is just what i get..

                  Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

I reckon its way optimistic. The trip computer seems to tell me that I average around 10l/100km but when I fill up it works out around 11.5l/100km.
The distance to empty is usually spot on, the trip computer not.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,

That's pretty similar to my figures, although my trip computer reads over on the l/100km and usually shows around 12l/100km

I am beside myself with your numbers as mine is amazing. We have just ticked over 30K. We regularly tow a 20 foot van at around 2200kg and came in around 15l/100 for the trip around Tas. If I drop the van and reset calc I have no trouble getting to 8.something and have had it as low as 7.7. Mostly light round town and some longer highway runs. Happy happy.

For the first 15k I got about 10l per 100km, with a best of 8l on a long trip. I recently fitted some accessories, including a 40mm lift and AT off-road tyres and my fuel immediately went up to just over 12l per 100km.

I knew it would go up, but did not think it would be so dramatic. But still incredibly happy with the vehicle.

                        • Re: Diesel Fuel Economy

More gear definitely increases fuel economy. After a bar, tyres, lift, towbar and drawer I'm currently running averaging 10.5lt/100kms around town with freeway driving. When the maxtrax and light pole get put up on the roofbars and the car fully loaded for camp (no towing) I average 11lt/100kms (100% freeway on semi-mountainous terrain). To give you a baseline for comparison, my friend who has a stock 150 with genuine bullbar and towbar tows his tinny on the same freeway and manages 9.5lt/100km. This is just using the readings off the Toyota trip computer.

                          Cheers

                          • Recently completed an Easter trip towing a 1.5t camper on highway and sand, and spent several hours 4x4 in sand. Consumption for the whole trip was 14l/100km which I was quite pleased with.

                            • Mine was as low as 7.8L driving for fuel consumption with racks and LT tyres, when i drove normally it was around 9.2L even after suspension raise. Drawers and bullbar going on in the next few weeks , will keep yous posted but im expecting a decent jump. Still it will be less than the 15's on my 120 V6.

                              • just to clarify fuel economy, do you guys give the fuel reading of the trip meter ?
I have done nearly 25000km and the computer trip meter usually sits around 10l / 100km but when I full up it always works out higher, typically 12l/100 km. When I did proper calcs it was out by 17%.
The distance to empty is far more accurate. I can get better fuel economy, if I acc slowly and back off a bit. But as a rule don`t nurse it and will sit on 108 in 100 zone and 120 on 110 zone to allow for the speedo reading high.
