  • Re: D4D vibration at 1500rpm

I just had my 30K service and they appear to have fixed the problem by adjusting the RHF guard away from the A Pillar and fitting two screws to the RHS splash cover. Hopefully thi will be a long term fix!

    Cheers

Just thought I'd share my experience in fixing the 1500RPM vibration issue by simply having a Safari Snorkel fitted. The car is new (2500km's) and although I didn't have any major vibrations behind the dash / windscreen area, the labouring of the engine and resonating sound created was very annoying to say the least. Once the snorkel was fitted, the improvement was remarkable. No more labouring of the engine and the resonance has virually gone.

I had an Airtec snorkel fitted this week (at 5000 Km), principally to assist in minimizing dust intake after previous problems travelling in the Outback.
My before and after comments on performance are identical to VXWesty's. Very happy as it was an unexpected bonus.

      • Hi, I have the same problem on my Prado TX D4D Auto - South Africa version, however if I flip it to S and drive it up to 1500 rpm I get the same rattle from gears 1 to 5 at the different speeds.Have any one done the same test in S mode?

        • I had the same problem. Once I had the snorkel fitted the vibration went away.

S mode is better as it changes the shift pattern of the tranny and reduces lugging however the root cause remains which appears to be related to vibration being transferred from the air intake to the body of the car.

            • I had the same problem.

Quick fix - drive around in 4th for the suburbs - that solves it.

Brighton toyota did the 'plastic tab' fix for me, lasted about 3 days then problem came back. From there they were stumped and were unsure what to do.

I took the advice from the forum. Fitted a safari snorkel. Noise problem/vibration in 5th COMPLETELY solved. The vehicle is also more responsive. Fuel economy - same same for me. Worth the $600 odd fitted - absolutely - a small thing but is more driveable.

              Cheers

              • My 2010 built Prado 150 D4D Kakadu has the vibration @ 1500 rpm issue.

After researching on pradopoint (thanks everyone) , rang the service centre where I bought my prado from. They apparently knew the issue. Drove to dealer on Friday, 16/09/2011, for a fix.

I was told that there is some sort of factory chip setting adjustment on the phone. However, I don't if there was any repacking or form fitted.

I've been driven the car over weekends. So far, the vibration has gone, and I can feel the car is more responsive/powerful and more quiet than before the fix (hopefully it's not my illusion ).

Also, dealer will install the longer mudflaps for me this Friday.

                I am in Sydney.

                • Sozjot, posted this same problem recently. In my vehicle I virtually fixed the problem by taking out the air filter box and placing a pad of high density underneath it then screwing it back down so that it compressed the foam. Worked like a charm, the local toyota dudes were suitably impressed and even took photos of the " rough looking fix" to include in a Dealer product report to Toyota. Worth a go yourself tho. - Youngen

                  • I recommend the software update as well, much less lugging experienced IMO and as a result less vibration. Read my post under the 2400rpm flat spot thread.

                    • Finally got vibration fixed, as last time they modified the 'A' pillar with probably blue tack as it happened as I drove out of the service department. This time, the Right Hand Front guard lining was removed, body deadner fitted on inner front quarter and it gone.

                        • For those interested, I've outlined the process for fixing the problem here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ghlight=drone.

I'm also planning to take my car into my local dealer, who has been very helpful, and show them the fix and the result. So hopefully they will do it for others.

                          • I took my car into the dealer today and to show the fix to the service manager who has been trying to fix the 1500rpm vibration on my car and numerous others (first time that they admitted to this). He told me that they had trialled numerous fixes including a different type of air-box.

While driving my car he made the comment that unless you really pay attention and know what you are looking for that there is no sign of the old engine harshness around 1500rpm.

After driving my Prado he was pretty keen to see what I had done, I gave him the full details and he said that he would be completing a report on the fix to submit to Toyota.

                            • Hi,

My engine vibration only occurs in reverse, in idle, with foot on brake and only while the vehicle is warming up & not when first started.
Problem, fades when weather warms up. Sydney's current December cold snap made it obvious again. 2008 diesel auto of course. Dealer thinks it may have something to do with vacuum engine mounts but are waiting for an email from Japan. This started about 18 months ago around 50,000kms. None of the posts so far mention being in reverse gear only. Has anyone heard of this and know the reason ?
