  • Transfer Fuel Filter

Hi, I know this has probably been covered a lot here. But I spoke to a Toyota technician about this filter being replaced every 20,000 kms.
He mentioned the same filter is used in the Landcruiser 4.7L V8 Petrol as the primary filter and doesn't get replaced until 80,000 kms.
Am I wrong to think that this filter in the diesel is safe to replace at 40,000 kms instead of 20,000 kms due to fuel quality in Australia being improved over the years.

It's not that expensive or difficult to replace- May as well do it at 20 while you're under there greasing the tailshaft....

Where are you sourcing your filter from? Brand and cost please. Toyota is $90 plus. Thanks.

The Ryco transfer filter is half the price.

Toyota want $190 supply and fitted. Does anyone know the service time to do this job? $100 labour sounds over the top, considering it's probably a 30 min job.

Honestly probably less than 5 minutes once you're under the car- It's a clip on the inlet and outlet side and a bolt that holds the filter to the car from memory. Bugger all in changing it. $190 is insane.

Correct me if I am wrong. The Transfer Filter is just really a pre-filter before the main filter. If so, then there is no need to fit an aftermarket (eg. 30 micron) filter before the main filter on these models.
