  • Fuel water warning light

Drove 400k last night after filling up when fuel/water warning light came on... Steady no buzzer. Checked this morning no water when drainers at filter and light still on... Engine runs smoothly.... Any ideas?
Only 50k on clock had it since new Jan 2014

Found other PP posts on subject via Google
I tried the reset b4 changing the filter to test how clogged the filter might be... Light stayed off.... I guess this means it's not such a big deal to drive the car under light load till convenient to sort out if stuck ~test using re set procedure.
As others have commented it is inexcusable to sell a remote off road vehicle with no instructions in the owners manual... Let alone confusing ones about flashing lights and buzzers that don't happen and dire warnings to go to a dealer that may be 1000+km away.
    Not Good Enough Mr Toyota!
    Thanks PP

I might add that those going to remote areas carrying a spare that haven't been thru this might like to change over at home to check you have the gear to do it..... No vi e and special tools out there

I had the same experience coming back from the Flinders Ranges (to Adelaide) on Monday. Fortunately I was in range so rang my Toyota dealer who said it would likely just need a fuel filter change which should be done ASAP. I was close to Hawker so stopped at Chris's Mechanical who did the replacement immediately so I could keep travelling. They indicated that Toyota don't replace the filter routinely but instead wait for the light to come on. I haven't verified that with Toyota but if true it is a stupid approach as far as I am concerned for a 4WD that could be a long way from a mechanic.

The underbonnet filter gets done every 40000km according to the service book for 150's.

I'll have to ask my dealer when (if) they last replaced my fuel filter. I went back through the service reports and couldn't find any that indicated the fuel filter was replaced, including the 40,000km service.

Given it's fixed price servicing, you'd hope they do it by the book. I just checked my 40K service and they replaced both fuel filters, the brake fluid and front/rear diff oil.

I think you might find this is not the case. Late 2014 GXL, had to do mine on my own. Toyota will wait till the light comes on. It is also not mentioned on the service schedule.
D4D. How long will it last?
