  • OK, for what it is worth let me share my most recent expirence. Put my Prado in for its 40000km service and asked again for the SW upgrade. Long story short they wont look at it unitl I remove the Tunit Chip...

However I did get the Service Manager to findout that Toyota have released, on 19 Jan 13, an engine ECU software upgrade specifically addressing the 2400rpm issue. All other software updates have been for the transmission ecu (confused me as well)

I should be getting the new ecu (engine) sw next monday 4 Feb... here's hoping...

    • Rang my local dealership. They checked there system and my manual D4D is compatible with the ECM upgrade.

Getting it done under warranty on Thursday afternoon. Hope it sorts the problem, I noticed the Steinbauer helped but the fault is still present.

      • Just got the car back. Without the Steinbauer it is pulling harder down low and with it refitted its going great. I found the car to be accelerating stronger, with less boost going into the engine. Where it would normally boost up to 11/12psi between gear changes, it's pulling just as hard around 9psi.

Only driven it from Toyota to home so far. Shall see how it goes on the highway on Saturday.

        • 1 week update: car going fine, no flat spot so far, havent had a load behind it so far so I will have to wait until I am towing again to be confident...

It is a bugger that I will never know it is gone, but only know if it comes back.

          • Just curious here..... but is there anyone that is having these problems that also have the Wind's Booster installed in their vehicles as well?
The only reason I ask is we had the Reflash done when it 1st came out a year or 2 ago and I did notice a difference but I also noticed a drop in fuel economy. I didn't worry too much at the time but with this new "dedicated" ECU software change whether I might be able to get my economy to return it its previous averages.....
BTW: I've recently tried one of these Wind Boosters and all I can say is WOW, what a change.....It's dramatically improved the vehicles response from take-off to the point where any thought I had of adding a Chip to our car has disappeared for the time being.....Not sure what will happen with the economy side of things though.....Just wondering if this booster would solve any of these 2400rpm issues......

            • Hi there,

I had my Prado engine computer updated on 1 Feb 2013 & it goes very well, no hint of a flat spot between 2,200 & 2,400 RPM.

Went Sydney to Grafton towing a trailer with a ride on lawnmower.

About time, it's only taken 35 months.

              • As stated previously the increase in fuel consumption is caused by the shift pattern changing e.g. it won't select 5th till 60km/hr after the update

After having the computer s/w updated and a drive to Armidale to test the result this week, I was quite pleased with the result.
The 2 year old manual has had the problem since new and the Toyota dealer the car was purchased from had no idea what the problem was and much less of an idea of how to fix it. I had a suspicion that there may have been a fuel mapping issue at certain revs and engine loads. This was most evident when using the cruise control. It was one of the cars many faults/designs that had me considering trading in for something like the 120 I had previously.
However, now the cars appears to run smoother and is more pleasing to drive. One side effect of the remapped computer seams to be a slight loss of power at lower revs and I find that especially on hill starts I have to slide the clutch a little longer than before. The engine isn't happy until the revs have increased past 1600 rpm. Fuel economy has not appeared to change.

                    Regards

                    • Took mine in for it's 70k service this week, thought I would try City Toyota due to the good rap they have been given here. Told them about the flat spot and that the dealer close to me had checked the trans updates on the last 2 services. On picking it up was told that the trans ECU was in fact 2 updates behind, car is back to driving like I remember now. Local dealer has now made the list and will be going back to City for the big service at 80 k.
Can't stand paying a dealer for a service and having them straight out lie about what they have done.

They are an improvement over standard, not sure what model they are and Myaree suspension, i only did it this way as I didn't want a lift ( wouldnt fit in the garage) but with the rack and rooftop tent it definitely doesn't fit now anyway, so would probably have just gone for an OME kit instead.

                          • Got my ECU upgraded from 360G0100 to 360G0300 which I assume means it is now two iterations newer?
Would be nice to know what was tweaked - don't notice any difference, but maybe a bit more time will reveal something...

                            • Joe, why did you get the change done was it due to this hesitation as that reprogram (360G0300) is for that problem. Read this post:

Hi Riv - I didn't request this update for this particular problem, as I hadn't experienced it myself, however having just purchased the car from the orginal owner, I wanted to ensure that the
car was up to date, so got them to check - end result was that ECU update. Thanks for pointing me towards the explanation of the ECU update!
