No it doesn't. I have a chipit and the flatspot is still there. It's an auto transmission software calibration issue, not an engine management issue. Selecting S4 when you are going through roundabouts prevents it, but it still does it in S5.

Oh ok. That's weird mine doesn't do that.

Since I had a Chip-It installed last week I no longer get the flat spot either. I'm very happy with the car's performance now.

It did not fix mine, half way up a hill with what I would class as a very easy dirt track the auto light came on... Back to Toyota tomorrow for another go.

There's no fix as yet, DPR is currently your only option and hope that Toyota Aus does something eventually.

The fix is to select S and keep the engine revs above 2400. This causes the transmission to lock and it will never overheat. I found out after the light came on and took it back to the dealer.

I can demonstate the flat spot at a particular intersection every time. When driving outbound on Webster Road (Brisbane) make a left turn onto the Gympie Highway. Accellerate sligtly and providing you go through the green light you will experience the flat spot every time.

I had the auto transmission reprogrammed but it still does it. It you watch closely its the car changing down a gear at the same time you are accellerating which causes the problem. Again, if I select D and 3rd gear it never happens.

And thought I had an auto...

                  Nifty

i get a flat spot when i am cruising between 110 to 120km/h. Does anyone else experience this problem. it seems to be when the vehicle is under load. The problem is very intermittern, so it's very hard to replicate for the dealers.

Great, and here I was thinking I'd done all the research prior to ordering a GXL TD auto last week. I'm guessing, even though this is a 2010 prado thread, the issue is sill there on new-builds? I was going to get a manual but after reading about the virtues of the auto (this issue aside) I switched.

I thought my first post would have contained lots of but no. I have three options: 1) take the car and hope they fix it one day or mine doesn't have it 2) try switching to a manual (can't see the dealer being too cooperative) 3) drop a $1000 deposit and forget Toyota....If it's the transmission then can't see any work around, by the sounds of it chipping it won't fix it.

This stone-walling by the dealers and Toyota really pi$$es me off and I don't even own one yet.

No doubt you will have the flat spot but you can live with it depending on your driving style. It really only shows itself when you drive the car hard IMO. If you are softer on the old pedal you won't notice it as much. You can also avoid it sometimes by using 'S' mode and down shifting a little aerlier than what the box would normally do (I generally drive in S all the time as the car is far more responsive IMO and the engine luggs much less).

Despite the 'teathing issues' of the 150 l still like mine and enjoy driving it.

                          Thanks for your thoughts Riv39,

I don't plan on driving it too hard but with only 127kws it will need all of them when overtaking and towing. I was all for the manual until a mate and the poll on this site amongst other things (including wife acceptance) convinced me the auto was worth the extra $2500+. I guess I can drive it like a manual and the wife will still appreciate the auto.

I'm still trying to work out how the s mode works but by the sounds of it no one can explain the (illogical) d mode either.

Hoping like he'll it has updated injectors - both issues combined would do my head in.

S mode is easy, if you are in D and switch to S it will either default to the gear the box is in between 1-4 or if you are in 5 it will default to 4. After seecting S use the leaver to select 5 and the box works as if it is a normal auto but it will shift more readily IMO. Note that whist in S mode you will not have auto engine breaking. That is the car automatically downsifts (most times) when the break is depressed whilst in D. No big deal as you can manually do this anyway if required. The only other quirk I've noticed in S is a rather clunky downshift (somewhere between 3, 2 & 1 I think) in heavy traffic sometimes whilst going up a steep hill, but again no big deal.

I haven't noticed this 2400rpm flatspot... I also drive in S around town now as D almost got me T-boned when entering a roundabout. For the record I think it dropped a gear before taking off, hence why it took a moment to respond. I use D when I'm in the open road.

I reckon it's a great car. Regardless of what car it is, people will always nitpick... but at the end of the day you know you've made the right decision
