Spot on Hoskie, and thanks for your post. Armed with this info I went to my dealer today and booked in for next Monday. I didn't get to read the release note they printed off about the fix but I gathered from the service advisor that it must say something about a dead spot between 35 and 45 kph and doesn't relate to RPM as us PradoPointer's refer to it.

        Hi,

I just want to share my experience. I own a 2011 build plate GXL Turbo Diesel Auto and it has a slight pause/ hesitation from the engine at approximately 2100/2200rpm around 100/110kph, Its like it is surging? It happens approximately 3 times over a 3 -4 second timeframe. It is quite noticeable. It is not a fuel problem as it has been happening for a while now. I also have the inner guard/dash rattle on the drivers side. I am having my 20000klm service soon so it should be interesting. To have these problems on a $65000 car is quite dissapointing.

          Offroad Andy,

All the problems you mentioned are 'fixable'. Stand your ground with your dealer. The inner guard dash rattle can be fixed by a replacement rubber insert beneath the RHS wiper. (Warranty) The transmission hesitation can be fixed as mentioned above. (Warranty) The mudflaps can be replaced. (Warranty)

Don't let them weasle out after having forked out 65K.

Do you have some more info on the dash rattle fix, whats the replacement rubber insert that you are referring too?

Krypto, I picked up my 150 at Easter 2010. The rubber insert I refer to is near the wiper blades at the top of the bonnet. Within a short while I noticed the dashboard rattle so pulled out the RHS rubber insert and it was sitting in my console until I approached the dealer. At the time 'packing foam' around the air inlet was all the rage and I mentioned this to them and they said that they don't do that and they would replace this rubber insert. After they ordered it (a couple of weeks later?) a mechanic wandered over to my car in the car park, proceeded to unwrap the new part and pushed it into position. I asked for the old part back and he said because it had a different part number and was a warranty claim that they had to send the old one back. Externally, they looked identical to each other. Possibly the rubber tabs underneath are a different size. Either way, I have NEVER had any rattle since.

              Hope this helps.

                Thanks,

I'll have a look at this as I've been having this rattle off and on since new. They did the packing thing, but I've found playing with the plastic wiper cover seems to change the rattle so this may be the problem.

Is that the rubber seal between the plastic panel under the wipers and the windscreen?

Yes, the L shaped rubber piece that runs from the A piller and part way along the bottom of the windscreen. Evaluate by taking this out and see if your vibration goes away.

                      Hi Andy

I have the same hesitation @ 110kph and the flat spot update has not fixed this. With the scangauge monitoring boost I can see the boost go to 14.5psi for a second and then it drops and the engine goes normally again, It seems to go into overboost for a split second causing the engine to surge. I have reported this to Toyota but as usual they think I am making this up.

                      • Returning from a trip to Newcastle last week, the car flat spotted/ missed over a dozen times in 2 hours. The contents of the fuel tank came from a service station I rarely use but was convenient at the time. Refilled over the weekend with fuel from my normal supplier (130L). Had a call for a job in Sydney yesterday and drove down without any problem, using the cruise control only when the road was reasonably flat. Returned that afternoon and first missed occurred soon after the first hour of travel. Instantly checking the boost showed 14.5 before falling after the miss. I then noticed that if the cruise control was engaged and a hill encountered the boost climbed normally to a max of 11.9 and then backed of on the decent. Travelling on the flat the boost hovered around 3 to 5. I monitored the scangauge more carefully for the next few kilometers and found sometimes the boost climbed to 14.5 after broaching the hill. The engine throttled right back to maintain the set speed and proceeded down the hill until the speed was reduced enough to call for more throttle. A this point the miss/flat spot/hesitation occurred. Observed this a few more times and decided not to use the cruise for the rest of the trip. No more problems on the way home.

Right, thanks I will take this up with my dealer as the part they relaced (and stuck down with double sided tape) was the entire plastic panel under the wipers and I bet they didn't replace the rubber end pieces.

P.S. I sent you a PM regarding your dealer's name as this is a bit off topic in this thread.

                          • Hey Bursa,
I have a similar issue with my 150, the flat spot is repeatable everytime when accelerating out of a roundabout. I have taled to Toyota and yes they acknowledged it but no fix. Ho hum. Not bad for $70K. I have turned off the econ functionfor the transmission this seems to improve the situation with only a small cost to economy. Worth a try....
                            Cheers

                            • Nods, this is now a known and acknowledged problem and the fix has been published by Toyota Australia. Your dealer should be aware of this.

What is the Econ function for the transmission you mentioned? Are you talking about the green economy light? If so isn't that just a light that comes on when little throttle is used?
