Flat Spot at around 2400 RPM

    Richard, sounds like the update has not been applied. The dead giveaway that it has been updated is the fact that it will not select 5th before 60km/hr. It no longer labours at all it downshifts readily.

    Toyota should be able to tell you if its been done but as per above it is easy to tell for yourself.

        • Thanks again for TSB number.... service tech got shitty when quoted, maybe thats why they never washed it.
          Got ECU reprogrammed and auto changes are better, pity they couldn't fix the 1500rpm rattle, found that out as soon as I drove out.

            No probs Bj, have a read of this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...m&daysprune=75 re the 1500rpm rattle. There are a couple of fixes...

            • DO i assume Toyota would have the TSB or can someone please send me the TSB or direct me where I can find online, I think my Prado is changing to 5th to early and would like to get ontop of it for the 1000k check Thanks

              • Dougy, PM sent. My testing of the software update has reviled that if you select 'S' mode the car will not change to 5th before 60km. I think it's the same for D but I need to experiement a bit more as I normally use S mode.

                  • went to service dept for 50k service bookin....he said fix was for the petrol auto only...but with a bit more looking its for the diesel auto only not the petrol i wonder why that is

                      Because it's the diesel engine that has the hesitation at 2400rpm not the petrol.

                      • Well folks, I've had mine updated today and it's a totally different car. It is far more responsive and there is no hesitation at all. To be certain, I've retraced my key journeys where I've noticed it the most and there's no problems any more.

                        If it affects the fuel economy, so be it. I'll be happier to use more fuel for better performance than I had, and besides, if I pay more attention to my shopping dockets I can save 8c at the Woolies servos!! I'm sure that'll offset the difference.

                        Whilst I had the TNS number, there was no need to quote it. They gave me a copy of their internal document re the change details too.

                        (Got the mud flaps done too and they're a massive improvement).

                        • I had mine reprogrammed about three weeks ago and the hesitation/flat spot has gone. Before the fuel usage was telling we around 9l/100K but now it is around 11l/100K. Anyone else experiencing this?

                            Yes there is a difference. IMO 'S' mode is a little better than 'D' as it seems to hold lower gears a little less. So far I reckon a approx 0.5 - 1l/100km around the city. Country driving is no different.
