    Not sure why my last post was deemed "Unapproved" but I will try again.

    At what kms did you change your injectors? I have a 2010 Shorty and it is at 185kms,(bought it at 179k) I have checked the injector feedback values with the Toyota scan tool and they are spot on in spec but its always in the back of my mind that I should just bite the bullet and get new ones fitted for peace of mind.
    Did you do it yourself?
    Did you use Denso injectors?
    Did you also change the injector pipes at the same time?

    Yes, you should use Denso injectors, and change fuel pipes as they normally get bent during removal. If yours are in spec and not noisy, it depends if you want to change out something that is likely OK. Changing them doesn't guarantee the pistons won't fail. In saying that, there is a lot of hype blaming the injectors for common rail diesel failure, except a lot that have had injectors changed are still blowing pistons. Be aware of some "mechanics" out there are passing off the injector story and are making a lot of $$$ off unsuspecting people selling them injector kits. The fault is in the piston crown design, and well known that they can hand grenade, especially if tuned / chipped or towing. I personally know of about 12 people that have changed injectors and still had a piston fail down the track. (Including some mechanics....) You could always send it off to a Legitimate diesel mechanic for a second opinion. Would be cheaper than starting to swap out things that likely aren't broken.

      Agree! If the injectors are within spec, just keep using them. I too have heard stories of people who have experienced piston failure even after injector replacements.

        It's not just the injectors failing you need to worry about it is the seals too. Seals have failed and continue to fail even on the 150 Prado which has the new seals. If injectors are within specs I would still be inclined to change the seals at around 100000 - 150000kms to be sure to be sure. I would also keep a close watch on the oil pump pickup screen at each oil change.

            After much agonising I replaced injectors and fuel lines at 170k. Was it necessary, not sure, but I'm planning to keep the Prado or even pass it on to my son so doing everything by the book. I did the calculations somewhere and by 170k the injectors have done billions of cycles. They are a wear item.

            Observations, the new injectors are much quieter and about 7% more fuel efficient, although that may be down to the EGR clean that I did at the same time. Big ticket item, but after 10 years a lot cheaper than buying a new Prado. I fixed up a whole bunch of other things at the same time, feels like a new car:
            - Rear door hinge, was completely flogged out, no more rear door rattle,
            - Seals on a few doors
            - Rear door striker plate
            - Drivers seat belt
            - LED lights
            - Gaskets on exhaust, no more squeak

            I do run a Steinbauer, and interestingly I get the same 0-100 time as the new 150kw Prado.
