I just got my 2018 VX back from an 80k stealership service in Victoria, according to the invoice they have used 0w20 oil this time. All previous services have been 0w30. When questioned about this they told me that's what Toyota recommends. Has anyone seen a Techincal service bulletin for this recommendation? From this forum, I have seen people with the newer generation 2020-21 having trouble with 0w20 and resolving it with 0w30. So what should I do? get them to change it?

According to the specifications that I found online 0w-20 is recommended for new engines and in colder climates. It's significantly less viscous at higher temperatures like those encountered in Australia. Car manufacturers use it from new because the lower viscosity oil provides fractionally better fuel consumption. I would never use 0w-20 in an engine in Australia. From memory there was an issue with the oil pressure light coming on for some newer Prados running this oil which was resolved by Toyota with an ECU update which is crazy.Steve

I checked my manual no mention of 0w20 at all only 0w30 and 5w30 C2. I finally got to talk to the workshop supervisor in person. He had a strange look on his face when I asked him why 0w20 had been used. He said no way the paperwork must be wrong because they only use 0w30 in these vehicles. I have taken his word on it.
