  • DPF & Intake Spray Clean

    Hi,

I'm planning some maintenance on my 1GD prado before christmas holidays.

Has anyone here removed the intake hose on a 1GD and sprayed cleaner through to clean the intake? I did this as a regular maintenance item on my 1KD but have been a bit lazy with my new car. Did you get any error codes and did you notice much of a performance or fuel economy difference? I'm planning to pull the rubber hose that goes onto the throttle body but before the inlet temperature sensor.

Also, has anyone tired spraying the DPF by removing the DPF sensor? I've been reading that ash from engine oil doesn't burn off but will accumulate in the filter. I've been around 500mL of oil between services so the DPF has seen it's fair share of engine oil by products over 100 000km.

    Thanks,

Did the intake this afternoon. There wasn't much oil residue in the throttle body area so I doubt there's much oily EGR fouling further in. Throttle response is a bit better from stand still. No error codes. I'll need to check if there's one stored in the ECU, nothing was flashing on the dash.

I didn't have the right tools to remove the DPF pressure sensor for the DPF clean. Might give it a crack on the weekend after getting a crows foot spanner.

Since my MY2016 DPF rebuild in 2020, my GX's soot level regularly returns to 2% after a burn. I use a Provent catch can.

Personally, I'd leave it alone. The DPF and all of its components have a 10-year warranty.

Any DPF issues, Toyota are fixing with a new updated one. Mine was replaced earlier this year no questions asked. As said above there is a 10 year warranty on it so I wouldn't be touching the DPF..My 2016 had about 60k on it when done.Tell them you have seen a bit of white smoke occasionally and irregular burning patterns and want it replaced under warranty.

Just out of curiousity, how did you measure 500ml loss of engine oil?

I topped up the oil to get it to the full mark on the dipstick just before service. Before I topped up, the oil was sitting around 2/3's between the full mark and empty after sitting on flat ground over night. If the dipstick level is a linear indication, the oil volume from top to bottom marks on the stick works out to be 1.5L.

On my old 120 series 1kd, the volume was quoted in the manual at 1.8L between top and bottom marks. I didn't see this in my new current car's manual.

I've got a remapped ECU so warranty is gone if the dealer checks. I can have the remap reversed if needed for a warranty claim. I'm not sure if the reversal will leave any tell tail signs.

Could you share the detail how to clean EGR intake? Would be great to share some photos or instructions.
