  • help and info 1kdftv 3.0 engine

    Hi all
im running a 3.0 d4d 1kd-ftv 2012 auto. I recently replaced the turbo as i was blowing blue smoke heavily. Found turbo seals all stuffed. 8 months down the track on the new turbo, i’ve noticed oil usage between 10000km services, about 2 litres req every 2-3months. Now , i have no signs of oil leaks anywhere, no smoke at all, no oil in air filter, i run a ryco catch can, no oil in that either. I’m stumped as to where it’s going. 135000km only on engine.
Not sure what egr temps should be but mine at 100km cruising is around 350-375 deg, put your foot down to pass or merge and it can reach 480-500 deg??is that normal range? i run boost /egr /water temp and oil pressure gauges on pillar.
Also noticed the transmission starts playing up when sand driving for more than 30-40 mins , only has happened since i had the auto box fully re built. They have run the oil lines straight through the new external cooler and bypassed the radiator all together. it feels like the trans gets to hot and then it starts getting stuck in 2 , only when on the soft stuff not with normal driving.
    sorry for long post ,
thanks in advance for any help or information.
    cheers

If there’s no leaks and she’s using 2L per 10,000, it’s getting burned. That’s a fair amount too, have you noticed if it only uses oil near the end of the service interval or does it drink the whole way through.
EGT’s ……you need to say where your probe is, pre or post turbo.
No idea why they by-passed the radiator with your trany oil. A external cooler works OK with good airflow but sand work is usually slow and hot. They need the factory setup in conjunction with the external cooler. And I prefer a thermo fan on the external cooler, just to be sure to be sure.

My transmission guy tried to convince me to bypass the radiator when fitting an external cooler on previous 120 prado. Something about water in transmission if corrosion occurred in auto piping running through radiator and it had been a major problem on Fords with same setup.

Water contamination can happen but it’s extremely rare.
Did he fit a thermo fan to your external cooler? Useless in sand without it.

Def need to know location of EGR probe. Mine is after turbo and I cruise around at 275-300 degrees. Overtaking up to 300-350. Only goes over 350 if pushing it up hill on a hot day with a load on the back.
