Changed the Fuel Manager pre filter today. Pumped some fuel through it and car started no problem but after 5 mins if idling it stopped. Hmm. Took it off again and filled it with diesel and it started again no problem but stopped again. I bypassed the pre filter and pumped fuel through and the car started and ran with no issues. Obviously a pre filter issue which hasn't occurred at previous filter changes. Any ideas as to where to start trouble shooting?

The pre-filter head is probably sucking in air from one of it's seals under vacuum when the engine's running. Try nipping up the hose connections and blanking plugs as well as the bleed plug. The other leak point is the top cap where the primer pump can be retrofitted. Mine came lose slightly when I was trying to remove the locking ring to change the filter. Thanks for that. I figured on an air leak somewhere. I will track it down tomorrow. Interestingly the written instructions that came with it make no reference to the bleed screw on the top of the fuel manager but some of the online stuff does . It says open it and pump the main filter until fuel flows out of the fuel manager. Makes sense. Never had to do it before on previous changes.Comment

Fixed. Seal on the filter unit had stuck to the old filter so an imperfect seal.Comment

I think the bleed screw on the pre-filter head is only useful if you have a primer installed. I've tried opening it and pumping the factory filter. All that happened was air got sucked in. My understanding of the Stanadyne primer is that it will suck fuel but discharge air out the bleed port rather than pumping it via the outlet port. Basically saves having to purge air through the factory filter, to the pump and back to the tank.
