  • Auxiliary tank filter change. !!!!

Yesterday I finally got around to doing the aux filter change ??? I watched the videos so I knew how to remove the clips & was prepared for some fuel leakage ???

However the constant fuel dribble was a real pain as it ran off the drive shaft. 2 drip trays caught most of this. No hoist or pit & the carport is too low to use ramps for more work space.

When under the vehicle, which fortunately was lifted, I would have been happy to pay Toyota $200 to do it next time ???

One thought I did have was to cut the ends off the old filter & use them (with the plastic caps fitted) as plugs on the hose outlets to prevent the fuel running out.

I REALLY look forward to doing this in another 20 thou km. ???

If anyone has thoughts or tips for an easier way, please let me know.

    Regards, Russell ...............

Did you crack the fuel cap to release any air pressure in the tank?

      Hi catherder.

Thanks for your reply. No I didn't think to do that, something I will do next time ???

I will try to make up a drip tray to fit in below the hoses to catch any fuel.

I have a bit of learning to do with this new to me vehicle.

I tried to change brake fluid a couple of days ago ??? nothing is simple on newer vehicles ???

      Regards, Russell ...........

I have changed the under body fuel filter a couple of times now. The amount of fuel that runs out has been different each time. Sometimes just a few drips and the other times a veritable fountain.

Maybe the advise to crack the fuel cap will stop the variability of the amount that comes out.

          Hi mal58 & others.

If I do it again myself I will try plugging the ends of the fuel lines with the cut off ends of the old filter with the ends sealed up & perhaps a drip tray above the drive shaft.

I'm very envious of a mate who has a hoist to work on his toys, even a pit would do, possibly in my next shed ???

Regards, Russell. The rusty one. ...........
