  • 2011 GXL 150 Vibration @1500 rpm.

Took new GXL T/D auto for its ' 1 Month" complimentary service with approx. 4000k. Asked the dudes to take the thing for a drive and tell me I was mad for feeling this vibration at 1500 rpm (80Km/h). Was told I was no6t crazy and that the engine mounts were faulty. Had the changed yesterday and problem still exists. Taking it out of gear at
80 km/h and 'rolling' gets rid of the vibe. Feels like a transmission thing to me. Knew I shoulda got the manual.

As advised on the forum am ringing Toyota Aust. tomorrow and taking it to another dealer to see what they say.

They all do it, also causes an annoying rattle from the dash area (actually caused by plastic trim outside the car), have a read of this thread: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ht=dash+rattle

Part of the joys of owning a diesel 150, the vibration is normal and rattles can be fixed. Search is your friend as this has been extensively discussed http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...1500+vibration

They all do it and probably will until a six speed box is used. The gap between 4th and 5th is too great and in 'auto' mode the engine labours in 5th under light load. The easy answer is to slip it into 'S4' until over 90kmh, quiet as a mouse, keeps you sane and improves economy by up to 20% (Scanguage).

          Thanks folks,

Have virtually eliminated the problem myself. Took the thing to my local toyota dealer and the workshop foreman took it for a drive with me and confirmed I wasn't going crazy. He talked about "resonance" coming from the airbox which corresponded to some of the other postings. Went home, got one of the young blokes crab trap floats( high density foam shit) cut it up, undid the airbox hold down bolt, and wedged the foam underneath front and back of the airbox and on the side between the airbox and the front guard. I then retightened down the hold down bolt so that it compressed the foam. Took it for a drive this morning and fell that the vibration has been significantly reduced to the point of being non-existant. Would consider more improvement could be had by using "better" foam similar to the kids roll up sleeping mats or thong rubber etc. The young bloke can score this sort of stuff from work so I intend to try and improve on the "design" a bit.

Took it back to the local dude and showed him and he was suitably impressed enough to take some photos to include in a DPR report to Toyota.

Give it a go, may not work on all vehicles but sure as hell know it made a huge difference to my bucket of bolts.

Remember that you can select '5' after you choose 'S' mode for those that try this out, works a treat, no engine auto breaking, but a different car to drive from a shift pattern perspective.

              I had the same problem.

Quick fix - drive around in 4th for the suburbs - that solves it.

Brighton toyota did the 'plastic tab' fix for me, lasted about 3 days then problem came back. From there they were stumped and were unsure what to do.

I took the advice from the forum. Fitted a safari snorkel. Noise problem/vibration in 5th COMPLETELY solved. The vehicle is also more responsive. Fuel economy - same same for me. Worth the $600 odd fitted - absolutely - a small thing but is more driveable. Suggest you look into this - many comments on the forum regarding this.

              Cheers
