  • Time taken to Re-fill the DIESEL Fuel Tank

    Guys....

I don't know whether this is a common problem (I assume its the same with all diesels), but when it comes to refuelling our Diesel Prado, it takes FOREVER to fill it up to the top. Between the 1st click to when it's actually full, it can take an extra 12+ ltrs or so.
Is there a solution to speed up the refuelling time? It's seems to be the frothing of the Diesel that is causing the problems

    cheers.....

I dont even bother anymore, i use the Hi-flow diesel pumps and go to second click. It will probably matter next year for the Simpson crossing though.

Yeah I think the most I have ever squeezed in there is about 125 ltrs. and that was with cruising range down to about 30kms left.

As croozr said, BP ultimate is definitely your friend. Doesn't froth up, usually always full by first click and definitely full by second. I think the hardest part about getting a full tank of fuel when you refill is not being able to use a full tank.

I try not to let it drift under half and thus never a problem. There was a thread on problems with filling and I think they found that there was a kink in the interconnect pipe between tanks.

Don't get me started on BP ultimate..........are you listening BP? START SELLING IT IN NSW!!!!!!!

Half a tank!? How do you get anywhere?

But on a serious note, BP should really get their act together.

hehe....around town only mr wooley, keeps the refill cost down to a hmm...somewhat respectable amount.

It's actually an interesting topic in itself, having owned a large boat (yes that's where Riv 39 comes from) it was always best to never let the fuel tanks keep a lot of air in them for a long time as this of course lets more condensation build up and thus more water in the tank. Boats are not a sealed tank system of course so not sure whether this is relavent to the diesel 150 prado.

VEry naughty i know, but had to wait until pay week!!!! I filled up last week and it took 149.7L, how's that for close shaves???? I don't plan on making a habit of it. I'm the one who always complaions to the missus about never going under a quarter in the Rav4.

What's so different / special with BP Diesel ??? (Diesel been frothy for years...... IF BP is the only one that isn't, what have they done to change it ??? IS it a good thing ??? I assume it would be otherwise there would be some major complaints/lawsuits.....

I'm not a fan of BP (they are always the dearest in our area) in general and always to avoid filling up at BP Servos (thats Petrol or Diesel)..... I prefer Shell.....

On a Side note: I came across a Fuel Test/comparsion article some time ago between the different Aussie Fuel providers (ie: Shell / BP / Caltex, etc etc)..... Can't remember which was the best, just remembered that for the price u pay,BP was way down the list for best fuel.... but as I said, that was a fair while ago and things have probably changed.....

I use to use caltex.....now only BP. Their reputation for diesel is second to none. Have a read of this thread also http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l-Fuel-Quality The BP near me is also always cheaper than the others.

Put your fuel tank cap between the handle and finger grip and go for a coffee. Doesnt speed up the process but stops getting cramps while you hold the handle.

Or you can put a sturdy split pin through the small holes in the handle that will allow the lever in the handle to catch like it was designed to. Just pull out the pin and save for next time when you are finished.
