And you DO NOT need to fit a snorkel to fix it.
I have a safari snorkel and still get the rattle, the local dealer is telling me that Toyota had a fix but it wasn't effective so they are back to the drawing board.
I am assured that as soon as they get a fix, they will get onto it.

The fix I described works because it removes the resonance that causes the vibration, pretty simple really.

We have the 2012 Altitude and our rattle seems to be in the back passenger seat.
It seems to be there first thing in the morning and disappear later in the day. But this can be different from day to day.
I've had the vehicle back to the dealer about 5 times now - I'm sure half the workshop guys think I am hearing things as have been told twice there was no noise. Have also had the guy drive with me to hear it - which he did. I think they have packed the seat about 3 times and still the rattle is there.
If someone is sitting on the seat - of course no rattle. But we rarely have any more than 2 people in the car.

And then the other day I get an email from our workshop lady saying they received an email from Toyota saying there is a known fault with rattles and that they can install something to fix it.
Can't remember what it was as I have deleted the email - some sort of weight (dynamic weight?) A big sigh of relief that I am not going insane but now wondering if the rattle Toyota are talking about might be the one that is mianly mentioned in this thread and I might still have a lone problem.

Wondering if anyone else has a rattle inside that vehicle like we do????

We also bought a 2012 altitude about 3 months ago and have the same issue, rattle in the passenger side second row seat, I can see the headrest shaking.

Interestingly since reading the above, I noticed the LHS 2nd row headrest shaking in my rear view. I haven't noticed a rattle though.

I've tried so many things that I am going crazy. I tried driving around without the headrest but the rattle is still there.
I do think though that it might be high in the seat - have asked to have the seat replaced to no avail.
Found the email from the workshop on my phone - said the email they received from Toyota informed them of a common occurance of rattles in Toyota Prado's.
Toyota will be getting them to fit a Dynamic Damper - which is basically a heavy weight to stop the issue of the rattle.
(their wording - not mine, I know nothing about hese things)
Our dealer does not have any in stock and won't have for another month so Ii won't know if that fixes my rattle at all yet until that happens.

The back seat rattle has been documented in other threads on here as well. Toyota have looked at mine but never been able to do anything about it, but they did acknowledge there is a common problem. Will ask when I book in this week for a service.

I don't know where your rattle is coming from but on my Prado fixing the resonance that caused the vibrations and rattles has made the car a lot more drivable.

I notice on another thread that Toyota have a fix that involves re mounting the air box. This doesn't remove the resonance that comes from the air intake chamber which is basically the space under your rhs mud guard.

Long story short I'd look at fixing the resonance that causes the vibration. If it's the 1500rpm vibration you can do this by changing the characteristics of the air intake chamber, by either lining the chamber with sound mat or by fitting a snorkel.

I often wondered why I never had that problem (when everyone else did).

Almost the first thing that got changed (Tyres were first on day of delivery) on my 150 was a Snorkel, went on about 10 days after it was delivered.

Kept reading about this problem and thought "wonder why I haven't got that issue"...only just read this thread to find out!!

By the way rattles....with drawers and a cargo barrier in the back, and after trips to Mount Dare, across the Simmo and the Birdsville Track (2011) and Cape York (2012) I live with the world of rattles....the Minister of Finance tells me that "it sounds like a bloody truck"...I tell her she's right, cause it is!!

Hate to throw a spanner in the works, but I've had a snorkel since almost new and never had the drone until a couple of thousand km's ago. It did coincide with having the air box out a few times to route uhf coaxial to antenna so that probably has something to do with it. I'm just pointing out the snorkel fix isn't always the be all and end all. Having re read this though I might look at trying different tightening sequences to see if I can find the best option.

                            Cheers,
                            Dusty

You would think, with the obvious amount of complaints that Toyota would have got off their backsides and done a recall on this.

A recall is for a safety related issue.
