  • Mounting gear under the front guards

While fixing the vibration issue I was surprised by the amount of space under the front guards.

Has anyone mounted anything under the guards? It would definitely be worth considering as a spot to mount accessories or other stuff that you don't need to access regularly or that doesn't like heat.

Once you leave space for the suspension travel and wheel lock I don't there's going to be much room. Its going to cop all the mud, gravel and rain you drive through too.

You're better off trying to fit some cubby holes and/or water/air tanks in the bull bar if your strapped for storage space.

I'm obviously not talking about under the plastic mudguard, I'm talking about the hidden cavity above the plastic guards which you remove to fit the vibration dampening.

This is the space the air intake uses and where snorkels are mounted.

My bad. So you mean above the wheel arches, inside the engine bay?

Steve is refering to the cavity on the under side of the inner guard but above the wheel arch plastic lining where the air filter air intake is located [as on the 120s and assume the 150s]

I guess you could locate bits not required for regular access, like shower water pump or maybe heat exchange, but i guess we are blessed with lots of engine space not unlike many other 4wds, so not really considered.
You will find lots of space behind the bullbars and that is where hot water heaters that i have made for nissan patrols have been mounted

The idea has merit, I see no reason why it would not work.

The only problem would be accessing it when needed, Would need to come up with some form of quick release as trying to pry the little clips that hold the inner plastic guard in place everytime would drive you insane, Would probably be ok for say air compressor with hoses permanantly attached or twine hot water again with hoses attached and running into engine bay although I dont think I would like to be running cooling system hoses all that way, would be hard to keep an eye on it when doing a general check over for any water leaks from the cooling system, but Im sure there would be some thing the area would be useful for ????????.......Cheers Steve

One think that could fit there is dual battery components , particularly chargers that don't like heat.

I looked at installing my heat excahnger and pump in this position on my 120, not enough room for those items. The 150 without the plastic flares may have a lot more room than the 120 though. So long as it was items you dont need to access it would be a great spot to keeep things neat and tidy.

                  Cheers Andrew

Yes have thought about using that space myself, problem I see as stated above
                    is:

                    1/ Access
2/ As the metal is as thin as a tin can in this area mounting may be a problem
3/ Damage in the event of a blow out

But all in all is worth a thought.

Have also used this space to run alarm cables to keep them out of sight.
