  • Tyre Pressure

Googled this to death and its bound to be here somewhere but still cant find the right tyre pressure for 265x70x17's, I know with the 16's it was 40 front and 38 back is it more for a 17 ?
cheers and a happy new year to all.............

    Davy,

Its a bit of a personal preference, but I use 40 front and back. 35 on gravel 25 on the trails and 15 on sand. There is a thread on this somewhere.

    Cheers

Yep, that's what I use.. you cant just use what someone else is using as they may have different mods or drive on different terrain, both factors result in a variation of "optimal" tyre pressures.

Thanks for the input guys, I think 40 should be right just thought it might've been more with a bigger tyre but all good
                cheers,

Depends on the tyres. The standard Dunlop Grandtreks is recommended as 29psi allround if you look at the manual. On my previous set of BFG i would run at about 40 psi.

I love how the manual recommends 29, which is a bit low.. But when toyota puts air in your tyres (even when you ask them not too) at a service they put 50psi in.

There a whole thread (database) on tyre pressures. Perhaps if this thread was a little more specific in its title.

It is very hard to get anyone to commit to a tyre pressure guide, they must be scared of being sued. I use much the same as those above or a little softer. 34 - 36 general use, 38 - 40 with the van and 25 all around on the dirt down to 20 in steeper or muddy country and 14 to 18 in sand. If the tyres are too hard you will risk tyre damage and wear the centers out, before that you will say the suspension setup you have is crap. If the tyres are too soft generally you will wear them out faster some say that you will use more fuel as well. You will get a better ride and better grip as the payoff. If you are on a trip and get onto a gravel road with some corrigations and are getting slower and slower and getting pissed off, pull over let the tyres down to 25 all around. When you set off again you will not believe you are in the same vehicle. That is the difference tyre pressures make.

36 normal use, i dont change it for towing my Jayco camper.
                            25 on dirt.
                            20 on rock/shale/mud.
                            15 on sand.
