New Prado Factory Extended Warranty - Yes or No ????

I initially thought extended warranty had to be purchased when the vehicle is purchased. Toyota HO confirmed it can be purchased any time within the first 3 years before the standard warranty runs out. So i let it go for now and will consider it in a couple of years time.

I believe it is more expensive when purchased later on.

Last time I asked it was $1900 so $1600 seems a good deal. You can actually purchase it by calling Toyota Aus as well through customer care. I think the dealers offer you a better price if you have bought the car from them.

Deleted this post because I just discovered the Extended warranty changed in April 2012 due to consumer law and a lot of the exclusions mentioned such as injectors, body panel work, trim etc have been removed so I've deleted the post.

For anyone looking be sure to review the April 2012 Extended warranty PDS. The January 2012 one is obsolete.

love how they copy protect the PDS PDF so you cant copy the content (i.e. share this). e.g.

I'm not sure where they say you can't copy/share this pdf. It's freely available under law to anyone who wants to read it before making any commitment. I think it's an industry standard to exclude consumables. Don't be fooled into thinking any extended warranty is the same as a statutory one or one that is part of the buying process (3 years etc)

So diesel fuel injectors aren't covered ???

Well our worn out kakadu gear stick isn't covered either and ours is 2 y/o with 47000kms (Brisbane)

The wood grain ( if you like to call it that) has chipped off all around the edges and they are not replacing it

Similarly got the drivers leather seat replaced and have a big crease mark in it ..... The 120 grande I had no problems with .....

I am waiting for my new Prado VX diesel and been told factory warranty will cost $1945.00 Thats for 150000 klm and an extra 3 years. A lot more than quoted on this forum. Also it must be taken out on delivery of the vehicle. What say you all?

I was quoted the same that is the RRP, I am shopping around to see if I can get a better price. My car is 2.5 years old and was told that the warranty is exactly the same as the original warranty.

Hi Guys,

Picking up the new Prado D4D Altitude tomorrow. Still have not decided whether or not to include a factory extended warranty (extended to 6 years/150,000km) for approx. $1,600.

Any recommendations?

Just talked to Toyota HO in Adelaide. Told that new law says they cannot sell factory extended warranty and it is up to the dealers whether they give it away or not. What they are now selling is the 'Factory approved extended warranty insurance' which is not the same thing. So its either give it away or sell you something for a couple of grand.
Guess which way they want to go. Also the dealer tells me that I have to take it out on delivery, which is the case with the factory extended warranty, but the Toyota ins people tell me that you can buy insurance any time before the factory warranty runs out. In short, it's a mess. They have to cover a lot more on an extended factory warranty than the other in which the extent of cover would be determined by the contract of insurance and not the oroginal factory warranty.
