Small issue.. but an annoying one...does anyone else with a light coloured 150 D4D get soot all up the rear bumper? About to drop into local muffler shop to get a downturned exhaust tip... but wonder if anyone has done before?

It's the fuel, cars in Europe don't suffer from it. Apparently our diesels not refined enough and some manufacturers won't release their diesel models in aus because of it.2011 Upgrade V6 GXL Graphite, Optima Yellowtop/Redarc Dual Battery setup, Dobinsons/Bilsteins 2inch Lift, Rhino Pioneer SXB Tray, Foxwing Awning/Tagalong

Not sure Riv39, just what I hear. In WA apparently they refine the diesel more for overseas but we get the crud, but this is what I'm told from mechanics and guys who work at bp refinery here2011 Upgrade V6 GXL Graphite, Optima Yellowtop/Redarc Dual Battery setup, Dobinsons/Bilsteins 2inch Lift, Rhino Pioneer SXB Tray, Foxwing Awning/Tagalong

I think ours is refined to 45 or something and European minimum is 51? All I know is every diesel vehicle in aus does it, not just Prados. We have new white d22 navaras at work that are covered in it all over the tailgates, and I've seen countless BMW x5's covered in it which makes me smile.Last edited by reggie426; 26-09-2012, 10:32 AM.2011 Upgrade V6 GXL Graphite, Optima Yellowtop/Redarc Dual Battery setup, Dobinsons/Bilsteins 2inch Lift, Rhino Pioneer SXB Tray, Foxwing Awning/Tagalong

I travel to Europe regularly and one thing you notice is that no diesels produce any black smoke, even trucks. This is because of the higher quality fuel and stronger emissions standards. Also there are a lot more diesel vehicles over there than here, in most countries they are more popular than petrol engines.White D4D GXL auto Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib 265/70 R17, Genuine towbar, OME Suspension, ARB Sahara bar, Safari Snorkel, Icom 440N UHF, Rhino sportz bars, redarc BCDC1240 dual battery system, Drifta drawer setup, headlight upgrade.....more to come....

That's because diesel fuel is cheaper over there as it should be here.Originally posted by halfpastfour View PostI travel to Europe regularly and one thing you notice is that no diesels produce any black smoke, even trucks. Actually the fuel price is much dearer in Europe, diesel's about €1.60-€1.70 a litre, just over $2 aus. Even petrol's dear, cost me $100 to fill up a golf gti in England. When I came back I've never complained about fuel prices in Aus again!2011 Upgrade V6 GXL Graphite, Optima Yellowtop/Redarc Dual Battery setup, Dobinsons/Bilsteins 2inch Lift, Rhino Pioneer SXB Tray, Foxwing Awning/Tagalong

Generally Fuel prices in the UK are the same in pounds as they are here in Aussie dollars, has been for about 10 years, so if diesel is around $1.50 here, it is usually around 1.50 pounds in the UK. Europe varies a lot, but generally it is between 1.20-1.80 Euro. One thing though, diesel is usually a fair bit cheaper than unleaded in most Eu countries, as it should be here like Riv39 said.
Their cars are also very efficient, it is probably a combination of the fuel quality and the newer engines. Last year I had an auto V8 Volkswagon Touareg, 4 people with luggage, drove 700kms in 2 days and was giving it a fair bit, 220kmh+ on the autobahn and a fairly heavy foot elsewhere and only used 65 litres for the 700kms, I was very impressed. Had a golf over there a couple of weeks ago, driving pretty much the same and it only got as high as 5 litres per 100kms for the entire time I had it.White D4D GXL auto Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib 265/70 R17, Genuine towbar, OME Suspension, ARB Sahara bar, Safari Snorkel, Icom 440N UHF, Rhino sportz bars, redarc BCDC1240 dual battery system, Drifta drawer setup, headlight upgrade.....more to come....
