  • Cooper Tyres - Be Aware

    G'day,

Just through a trip from the NT to WA and before leaving put Cooper AT/3 - 265/70/17 on the truck. I have now done 11k on them and have had one blow out and 2 punctures on another. I sent and email to Coopers and they called me back to discuss the issue. Turns out I am not eligible for a warranty claim as the tyres are a parallel import. I didn't even notice until I put one side by side with a Coopers Australia distributed one, the tyres I originally purchased are not light truck but passenger car tyres. Coopers don't even sell this size in Australia for a 'passenger car' only the light truck range.

So if your in the market for Coopers ensure you are getting the correct product.

Did you import them yourself or buy through a local retailer?

G'day Max...through a tyre shop in Melbourne. I'm speaking with them at the minute to see if anything can be done.

        That sucks.

Did the seller tell you these were passenger tyres, not LT? If not, off to small claims with him.

you should not need to contact cooper, you did not buy it from them.
You deal with the shop you purchased from they can pay for it, its up to them to follow up the chain to get their refund.
if they imported them then they made enuff to pay, thats their problem.
          goodluck!

p.s as long as it is a warranty claim...... hard to define sometimes.....

Got caught out with same issue. Lucky for me I managed to get a new set of light truck tyres out of the dealer and age him back the passenger tyres..

How did you go chasing this issue up with the dealer? See a post about 3/4 the way down on this site: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invisio...howtopic=56006

It talks about needing to buy coopers through an authorised dealer to avoid grey imports. Did you get a warranty card with your tyres?

I just put on some AT/3s (in pax construction, as there are no legal LT's I can put on the VX's 18" rims).

Hope you get it all sorted... 3 failures in one trip is pretty harsh.

Gidday, as they say- buyer be aware, I Purchased 5 x at3 lt and have covered 52000 k this far over some of the roughest roads in the territory while towing a 2.5 tonne caravan. No chipping, no punctures and plenty of tread left. So if you get the genuine at3 you will be very happy with them as I am.

same here, done about 42,000k on my AT3's on and off road as well as towing our tandem caravan and not had a single issue with them. Still have heaps of tread left and no edges worn like most other brands have done

I went fine. Just spoke to the dealer and showed them the bill of sale, stating light truck tyres were ordered and agreed upon.

5000 km on them and they look fine.

From my dealings with Cooper they can be very hard to claim Warranty with.
I only got 10,000Km rear and 20,000km front tyres from a set of STC on a 78 Series ute this was a work ute that was used on a coal mine every week but most of the driving was road based to and from the Mine. These tyres fell to peices could see metal after a few lugs fell off on there last trip to work.
Tyre dealer said no Warranty as there been on a mine site but 10,000km out of a pair of tyres you got to be joking.

I was looking at getting a set CS2 215/18 I think for my Wifes X-trail lately and was reading thought the Warranty and there no Warranty offerded if you dont live in a city and they want $400.00 + for theses tyres still.

I think most of you that have Coppers and dont live in a major city have no warranty also you just don't know untill you read the fine print or need to claim.

I dont think they have to much trust in there product if they cant warrant major country Towns and Citys.
I would be a diffenent story if you lifed on the Dirt or on a Mine Site.
